What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

I would like to detail a destroyed planet currently I can not find a simple way to represent this in a geographic type, I might just be missing a clear option in that case just downvoted this request

How does this feature request address the current situation?

it adds an extra geographic type to select called destroyed planet/ planetary debris field

What are other uses for this feature request?

maybe there is also an option to put in a separate box to describe what the cause of destruction is?

I feel like the best way to approach these super-specific (and this is fairly specific-- I don't know how many worlds need "destroyed planet" as a geographic type, but I'd guess it's a fraction of a percent) requests for new geographic types is just to add the information in manually into the sidebar. It takes about 2 minutes at most to do that, and a whole lot longer to get something listed as a new type.

I think "asteroid belt" is the best fit, though I suppose "destroyed planet" would make it clearer at a glance. As a fallback, you could always add the type (and cause of destruction) manually as a key/value pair.

Could be a planetary formation field too - for planets not yet formed.

You could perhaps use the existing "asteroid belt" type and then within the history text add a description explaining its origin as a destroyed planet? Depending on how it is destroyed, the rubble will either become a belt/ring or recondense but in either case I think it's reasonable to describe it as an asteroid belt.
