Simplification of Pin Management

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying about the current situation?

When editing pins on the map, the constant reloading of the page is highly distracting, making it hard to get into a flow. Most often it is some smaller changes during drafting the map features that isn't done because it is painful to do so.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

I would suggest that by clicking on the pin, you would get some editable popup where you could change basic things like the name or article link. From here, a button could lead to the existing advanced editing interface

What are other uses for this feature request?

It is pretty map- and pin-specific.

The Team's Response

Hey there guys! Ok so this is not going to be a big reveal but this is being worked on already under PROJECT ATLAS. My goal is to have this to you as soon as possible as part of the v.1.0 version of World Anvil within 2023

Pin management has been an enormous pain. Anything to make it better would be appreciated.

I agree to this as I have been having problems that if the map reloads too much it goes fully white and cannot continue

At least not having to reload the full edit map page every time I'm editing a pin would be a huge improvement

I agree - I use map pins a LOT but opening them for full editing mode is quite onerous. If there were a way to edit all aspects of a pin in presentation mode, or even just not having to reload the full edit map page when going into and out of the pin editing window, that would be marvelous

Is it not almost the same as this suggestion (which was accepted)? https://www.worldanvil.com/community/voting/suggestion/4bacfbbc-7cf6-4fc1-b138-f97324dffbc1/view

I agree that the map pins could use a lot of improvements. It would surprise me if a rework wasn't already on the timeline.

I hardly ever had pins to my maps now due to the complicated system. This also causes my maps to look bland and boring. Having the ability to quick edit pins would be super beneficial, and save on reloading the page a billion times, especially for those editing a lot of pins.

Honestly I liked the old UI for map markers a lot better than this new system. It feels so ... Crowded (and I don't like that they've changed the pin system to search instead of dropdown; I don't even know all the pin types that exist in the first place!). And I agree, the constant page refresh is a bit obnoxious. Maybe reconsidering the map pin system again- and potentially even reverting some features- would be a good thing.

I am not a fan of the current system of creating map pins. I think it needs a general overhaul to improve the UI, and this suggestion would definitely help.

YES, but I also see how it wouldn't be easy to implement. The especially annoying part is if you have marker groups and you edit a marker that's inside a group that doesn't autoshow on load. So after editing anything you have to go to the top right again and tick your marker group again.
