Lansir

Founded over 300 years ago, the fertile and prosperous realm of Lansir is located in Duray, on the western coast of the Wound Sea. Founded by the Lan (known to outsiders as halflings), it is well known for its trade, love of the arts, and its oligarchical rulers.

Structure

Lansir is led by a council of twenty, made up of plutocrats, clan leaders and others who can prove their worth. The council selects its new members, and at least one councilor must step down every 5 years. Beneath the council is a bureaucracy that manages the local issues of the nation. One notable member, Zabelis Sundia, is a sorcerer who has bolstered her inner magic with knowledge of bardic lore.

SOCIAL CLASS

Merchants, artists, and artisans are the highest social class after government officials, followed by clergy folk, followed by farmers, scholars, warriors, sailors, and laborers, with servants at the bottom.

History

Roughly 360 years ago, a demon lord whose name is now forbidden opened a great portal over the continent of Duray, in what was then the thriving empire of Ahn-Seli, and began an invasion. After years of destruction, the people of Duray united to push back the demons and succeeded. Though Ahn-Seli crumbled in the aftermath, the city-states west of the Wound Sea began to form alliances. A few decades after the invasion, the twenty most powerful of the city-states combined their spheres of influence to form a realm called Lansir. Over time it grew, as nearby areas hoped to benefit from the stability, and the mineral and agricultural wealth of the area.

Demography and Population

About 7 in 10 people in Lansir are Lan, most of them having lightfoot ancestry. About a quarter are humans, who are usually ethnically Ahn or Seli. The rest of the population is mostly gnolls, about evenly split between those who live in Lannish settlements and those who live in traditional gnoll bands.   Humans and gnolls tend to cluster in certain neighborhoods in urban areas that are specially built to accommodate them, colloquially known as "tall-towns".

Military

Though it usually avoids war by making itself an attractive trade partner, Lansir has a small army, which is supplemented by mercenaries in times of conflict.

Religion

Lansir follows the common Durayan variant of the Four Gods, though it is tolerant of other religions. Being a coastal nation, Ennera is slightly more valued than Idali.

Foreign Relations

Lansir is cosmopolitan and for the most part, has good relations with nearby groups. Its greatest ally is likely Vayha, just across the Wound Sea, and it has been this way for over a century. However, it has also begun large amounts of exchange with the Shobre Empire. Previously this exchange was limited due to Shobre's rivalry with Vayha, but treaties have been made to promise no intervention from Lansir in any conflict unless it is a response to a direct attack. Lannish halflings exist as a minority in Occidental Duriac, and the same can be said of west Durians in Lansir. Relations with the people of the Great Savanna vary depending on region.

Agriculture & Industry

Lansir has lush fields that produce large quantities of food.

Trade & Transport

Being a mercantile nation where influence over trade is a possible way to gain membership in the Council of 20, commerce is quite important in Lansir. Its people conduct nautical trade across the Wound Sea, and land trade with the Shobre Empire to the west, and to Occidental and Oriental Duriac.
