Lannish

The people of Lansir, the Lannish are famous for trade and creativity, but their culture is as complex and nuanced as any other. Confusingly, "Lannish" is sometimes used as a demonym for the Lan in general.   Lannish are of course most frequently found in their homeland, and are common throughout the Wound Sea region and the Shobre Empire. Trade has also brought them to Duriac, the Wooded Coast, and the north of Duray, and to Zembah in Onunea. Though the popular image of a lightfoot Lan (and sometimes even the race as a whole) is, to humans, often one of the Lannish, they do not represent the entirety of that group.

MAGIC

Due to the importance of the arts, bards are the most respected spellcasters. Druids, on the other hand, are fairly rare. Education for wizards is difficult to acquire in Lansir, so many Lannish halflings interested in it travel to Vayha.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

Unsurprisingly, their main language is Lannish, which through their cultural and economic influence has become a lingua franca of sorts for halflings throughout the continent. However, the wider Lannish is a pidgin version of the "true" native tongue of Lansir, which is more complex and mostly used by people of high status. The two versions are still close enough to be mutually intelligible.

Shared customary codes and values

Though mercantile ambition is praised, successful merchants are expected to share their wealth with the community, including those who work for them. In fact, generosity is praised overall, contrary to the wider Durayan stereotype of the greedy lightfoot halfling.

Common Dress code

Through trade, Lansir has added elements of Vayhan, Shobrean, and northern halfling clothing to their own traditional garments. Though the actual clothing is similar between genders, men often wear warm colors and women cool ones. Grey or white clothes are worn by Lannish people of any gender, since those colors are more neutral. These trends are not enforced, however, since self-expression is appreciated in this culture.

Art & Architecture

In Lansir, music is considered a precious aspect of culture and artists have a high status. Lannish music has a unique sound, that manages to appeal to humanoids of many different ancestries and cultures. Paint and sculpture are common forms of expression as well.   Though there are humans, shifters, and gnolls in Lansir, the majority of the population are halflings, so buildings are made to accommodate humanoids of shorter stature. Thanks to its wealth, Lansir has built multiple unique structures, often adorned with beautiful paintings.

Common Taboos

Murder is taken very seriously, and even killing in self defense should be a last resort in Lannish culture.

Historical figures

Ideals

Gender Ideals

Though the Lannish tend to expect members of different genders to dress in certain colors and with different hairstyles, they lack strict gender roles. In Lannish culture, genders other than masculine and feminine are acknowledged, and words exist in the language to describe them properly.
