Lan (Halfling)

Halflings, known to themselves as the Lan, are native to Duray, and depending on their location might settle in rural areas, small villages, or gather into nomadic groups. A few live in human cities, though they have cities of their own in the nation of Lansir. Overall they are fairly similar to humans, but slightly more agile, and an ancient spark of magic gives them unusual willpower and luck.   Halflings have two subraces, known colloquially as stout and lightfoot halflings. Stout halflings have a reputation for martial skill, using guerilla strategies to battle their enemies, and for creating beautiful clothing. Stout halflings in desert climates have adapted to them successfully.   Lightfoot halflings, on the other hand, are known for their passion for the arts, and are thought to have discovered bardic magic. Lansir is a mercantile land, so other races often associate lightfoot halflings with commerce.   However, these differences are mostly due to regional culture, as lightfoots are more widespread in the Wound Sea area and the southwest of Duray while stout halflings tend to be found in the north and east.
