Umbral Plane

The Umbral Plane is a dark, twisted mirror to Zor’s Material Plane where the Mists of Veruun originate. Ruled by the mysterious Umbral Lords, The Umbral Plane is home to all the worst nightmares of reality. Some scholars even go so far as to state that the plane is the source of undeath itself. The Xendrosi have yet to confirm this but the plane is certainly full of the monstrosities of all shapes and sizes from lowly Zombies to powerful Liches. Everything in the Umbral Plane has a counterpart in the Material Plane. It’s unclear how this relationship works but it has been observed that when new settlements or landmarks are discovered or created on the Material Plane, it’s likeness will then appear, twisted and haunted, on the Umbral Plane. For example, the Veruunian capital of Elfport is twinned with Gloomport on the Umbral Plane.
Where the Umbral Plane differs dramatically from our realm is in it’s population. Some of the races seen in the Material Plane are native to the Umbral Plane as well, though it’s unclear whether they are truly native or immigrated to the plane sometime in the past. The city of Blackmist, twinned with the coastal city of Silver Cliff, is populated entirely by the undead. Vampire lords rule over noble houses of ghouls, ghosts and wights - all vying for political power much as mortals do on the Material Plane. There are things more sinister than simple undead in the Umbral realms though. Several evil deities make their home here and their realms are nightmares to behold.
