Forgeminds

Forgeminds were invented in Salton by the artificer Corwinn Grimhammer and his mentor/father figure Professor Redrin. Through there relationship with Baldric of Seadrift they acquired a collection of machinery from across the material planes, and eventually figured out an experimental method by which a humanoid mind could be copied over to a power core inside a mechanical body. Redrin himself was the template for the first Forgemind. He became very ill shortly after Corwinn's adventures in the far north, and realized he was slowly dying. Not wanting to leave Corwinn without a father figure, he copied his mind into the prototype Forgemind body they had recently completed. Interestingly enough, the new "Redrin Mk-II" proved to be the solution to his creator's malady. Combining his own intellect with Redrin's, they were able to identify his mysterious illness as "Skum Rot", a remnant of the aboleth who terrorized Seaton roughly three decades prior. They not only cured Redran himself, but were able to successfully treat many other residents who had contracted Skum Rot, and copy the minds of those too far gone into Forgemind bodies so that they may have some measure of peace. As a result, Salton has a small but burgeoning population of this new race, who have sparked something of an engineering renaissance. The Forgemind technology has proven popular, and people from all across the continent have begun to take note, making Seaton a destination for those seeking a form of life extension.   Importantly, Forgemind technology tends to work best with the minds of those who are pure of mind and spirit. The procedure has been known to fail when sourced from a morally corrupt mind. For this reason, Forgeminds (at least "younger" ones) are typically Good.
