Braefolk

The Braefolk have long made their homes in hill slopes all across the continent, and it is said that their villages are a sure sign of good and prosperous times. The reality of the Zorian halflings is, of course, far more complex that this superstition. Braefolk villages have survived and thrived for centuries by staying close to the earth and looking out for to their fellow villagers.   Of the things that keep their communities so close knit, none are more treasured than the tradition of storytelling. It is so vital to Brae culture that part of every halfling’s coming of age is venturing into the larger world to seek their own tales to pass on to the annals of their village history.   Most Story Quests end with the return of young Braefolk to their village and their acceptance into full adulthood. For a few, the call of the larger world is irresistible.   For some unfortunate youngsters, the Story Quest ends with tragedy and death. In times of war and calamity, such endings are sadly far more plentiful - this is the kernel of truth of the superstition of the Braefolk’s blessing. When things are well with the world, its storytellers thrive. When things are not well, they are most well acquainted with the suffering of its people.
