Sacrament Key

The strangely weighted, magically-summoned blades of the Sacrament Strikers

A gift from the gods themselves, who taught our ancestors the methods to apparate the blades from the hilts in the distant days of antiquity; somewhat obsolete and hard to use as they are, is it not our duty to wield them as symbols of our station as Sacrament Strikers?

These long and slender rapier-like swords have blades measuring over one meter in length with extremely short but intricate hilts typically made of lightweight metal inscribed with holy hymns or psalms. These weapons are incredibly thick and oddly-balanced, feeling heavier towards the tip, making them awkward to use as melee weapons - as their true usage almost exclusively lies as throwing weapons likened to blindingly fast bullet-like projectiles rather than swordplay.
Sacrament Keys are unique weapons that are typically found in the form of bladeless hilts of varying design or color - the blades of Sacrament Keys are instead projected from the hilt by their wielder, who must have at least one level in a divine or arcane caster class to form the semi-spiritual blades from the hilts. Alternatively, one can get them formed from another who meets these prerequisites. This semi-spiritual nature allows Sacrament Keys to ignore 5pts of hardness when attacking objects and to always deal at least 1/2 damage to incorporeal creatures even if they are wholly mundane weapons. Sacrament Keys reduce the cost of the Ghost-Touch weapon enchantment by 1/2. When formed by a third-party, the blades remain for 1 minute per caster level before evaporating into mist.   However, their true strength is revealed in the hands of a Sacrament Striker, or any wielder who wields both Arcane and Divine magic - when used in the hands of such a creature, their range increment increases to 30ft and their damage increases by one step. Additionally, they count as Good and Law-Aligned for the purposes of DR in the hands of such creatures.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

When in storage, the Sacrament Keys are nothing but mere hilts - through unknown means, when Arcane and Divine energy is pumped through the hilts and with careful technique and focus, a blade of metal determined by the makeup of the hilt is formed from the hilt that can slice and stab as well as any other weapon.

History

The history of the Sacrament Key is an unknown thing, kept secret by the Sacrament Strikers but rumored to stretch all the way back to the days when The Spirit Kings still walked the land.

Significance

The Sacrament Keys are utmost symbols of the Sacrament Strikers, and symbols of their holiness, authority, and power - they are synonymous with the Strikers themselves, though not many Strikers in the modern day choose to use the unwieldy, strangely weighed blades.
