Common Etiquette rules

When eating, use of the hands is generally considered rude, except for certain foods, such as sandwiches. A person licking their fingers is also considered rude. If napkins are not provided, it is expected to politely ask for them.

Common Dress code

Clothing decoration is common in Drevaria, with moderate impediment on practicality being generally considered acceptable. It is not uncommon for Drevarians to carry weapons that are considered "civilian" weapons. These would be something like a sword, dagger, or quarterstaff. Weapons generally considered to be "military" are generally unacceptable. These are things like halberds, war axes, war hammers, bows, or crossbows. Bows and crossbows are sometimes considered acceptable for hunters.

Art & Architecture

Art in general is very well-liked in Drevaria. Drevarians typically consider art to be a feminine pursuit, and as such often encourage men to become artists, believing it to be an effective tool for self-improvement. The most popular art in Drevaria is music and plays and, as a result, Drevarians are known for having many exceptional musicians and playwrights.

Funerary and Memorial customs

Drevarian funerals are typically burials, with families usually being buried in the same area, or in a crypt if they're wealthy enough.

Common Taboos

Insulting the Queen is typically met with contempt, especially among nobility.

Common Myths and Legends

Stories about The Green Gendarme, a bizarrely-armored traveller, are popular in some areas of the Queendom of Drevaria.

Ideals

Gender Ideals

Drevarian culture is strongly matriarchal. Men are typically viewed as somewhat lacking in intelligence and empathy, and thus requiring guidance and protection from women throughout most of their lives. This is usually provided by his mother or sister(s) until the man is married. This woman is known as a caretaker. Because of this, a man is typically expected to be obedient to his caretaker. A woman who expects obedience from another woman’s man is usually regarded with disdain.

Courtship Ideals

It is common, especially among nobility, for a man's mother or sister to find a wife for him. When this doesn't happen, a man is expected to wear a necklace that marks him as available.

Relationship Ideals

When a man is married, he is expected to be obedient to his wife. It is legal and socially acceptable for a woman to discipline her husband by beating, as long as there is only minimal lasting damage.
