The Birth of World and the Aesir

The world has not always existed. Neither have the Gods, no matter what they may tell you. This is the story of how Zeimia was created and the birth of the Aesir.

Summary

The flames of Muspelheim and the ice of Niflheim came together in the nothingness Ginnungagap. As the fires melted the ice, the drops came together to form Ymir, the first and parent of all Giants. As the ice continued to melt, the great cow Audhumla was uncovered. Audhumla fed Ymir with her milk while she ate salt licks from within the ice. Ymir was without singular gender and so would produce Giants from between his legs and from his armpits each night. This time is known as the First Age.   As the great cow continued to lick the ice, Bori, the firsty and father to the Aesir was uncovered. Bori married a giantess and his son Bor soon did the same with the Giantess Bestla. Bor and Bestla had three children, Odin, Vili, and Ve. Odin and his brothers realized that there could be much more to this world and knew a way make it happen.   While Ymir slept one night, Odin, Vili, and Ve grappled and murdered him. From Ysmir's corpse Odin and his brothers made Zeimia. They fashioned the oceans from his blood, the soil from his skin and muscles, vegetation from his hair, clouds from his brains, and the sky from his skull. Four dwarves held Ymir’s skull aloft above the earth. Odin then made the first humans and placed a fence of mountains to protect them from Jotunheim and their Giants. With the completion of Zeimia, the First Age ended and gave birth to the Second Age   Odin would go on to become the head of the Aesir and lead them in all his wisdom.

Historical Basis

While this story has fallen to legend, this is how the Norse and the Aesir claim the Zeimia was made. Whether or not that is the truth is up to faith.

Spread

All the Norse. big and small, know this legend. It has spread to other lands, but seeing as it opposes other creation stories, it is often discarded by those who do not follow the Aesir.
