Saurtin Bat
"I hated bats when I thought they were all small, I'll be damned if I don't hate bats the size of a wagon." -Beedle WanderstoneNamed after the dwarven explore who discovered them, also known as great bulldog bats, saurtin bats are large carnivorous hunters and are among the most dangerous creatures to expeditions because of their indiscriminate diet.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Saurtin bats can grow up to 12 feet in length and weigh 300 pounds. Fur color varies from dark orange to grey with a pale underside. They have rounded nostrils which are slanted forwards and have long pointed ears. Its upper lip is divided at the center and hangs over its lower lip giving the appearance of jowls, which is where the saurtin gets its nickname bulldog bat. It has a massive wingspan, usually around 30 feet, and it has rather large hind legs and feet.
Ecology and Habitats
Saurtin bats tend to live near water, resting in hollow trees or under roots.
Dietary Needs and Habits
The majority of the saurtin bat's diet consists of fish, however it is a fairly opportunistic feeder and will hunt whatever is most readily available, to include careless explorers. Because of this, they have become a dangerous nuisance to smaller parties travelling through the forest.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities
While the saurtin bat, like other bats, cannot see very well, it has amazing echolocation and can sense even slight ripples on the surface of water in order to hunt fish. It can also use its voice as a defense mechanism in order to push away threats.
That sonic defense attack is a neat touch.
