King Vulture

"A bird as majestic as this could only be created in the heavens..."   -Maximus Dovat
The king vulture is the largest bird to fly over Vorthal. Its enormous presence demands compliance from the forest itself, trees bending to seemingly obey the birds will.

Basic Information

While not the largest birds of Zantin, king vultures are massive, often having a wingspan over 20 feet and a length of around 12 feet. The majority of its feathers are white with the exception of its flight feathers which are black. King vultures have slightly longer necks relative to other birds but significantly shorter than other vultures. Their necks and head are not feathered, its neck colored bright orange with a yellow throat. The head is wrinkled and has an unusual yellow-orange crest just above the beak. The beak is darker orange and has a hooked tip.

A Divine Bird

The king vulture is considered by many to have control over the jungle granted by a god in order to stop spreading of Decay. There are claims that the trees will move out of the way in order to let the vulture descend to the forest floor. When seen on the ground, witnesses say the vulture seems to radiate light.

Dietary Needs and Habits

"It would seem tha King Vultures have only one real purpose; to combat the corruption of the forest. Should this be the case I can't help but feel pity for the decadent."   -from My Days in the Jungle by Ferdinand Hertalson
Other than nesting in the high canopy and regularly engaging with decadent, not a lot is known about king vulture habits.

That's really cool that the vultures are considered majestic. They're cool birds, and it's nice to see someone write about them other than the standard trope of creepy dead-flesh eaters that make people nervous.
