Jukamari

"By the time we made it to the Lieori Range, all us soldiers were exhausted. By exhaustion was no excuse for failure, and so we pushed on. Late one night we heard the roar so loud someone shouted, "Dragon!" We scrambled to our gear and as we readied ourselves to face on of the dreaded beasts, another soldier said the night watch had mistaken a bird fly overhead. Two days later we walked inbetween a bear cub and its mother. We learned where the roar came from."   -Maximus Dovat
Also known as mountain bears, Jukamari, although docile, are avoided because of their extremely loud roars which reportedly can splinter trees and rupture eardrums.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Jukamari can grow up to near eight feet long from snout to pelvis, and weigh on average about 300 pounds. Their fur is often black with reddish hint and a light-colored upper chest. Some also bear a beige "spectacle" markings around their eyes. Their snout is a bit shorter than the average bears and its face is more round.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Jukamari, like most bears, are omnivores, however their diet mostly consists of plants. Specifically, jukamari commonly eat cactus, fallen fruit, palm nuts, and unopened palm leaves. Their most commonly consumed meats include fish and deer.   Active both during day and night, jukamari are great tree climbers, and will often nest in taller trees, building crude platforms to store food. They tend to live in isolation but are not known to be territorial and can be seen eating in small groups. They tend to retreat from adventurers, but if threatened they may unleash their incredible roar to stun the threat. A jukamari roar can be heard for miles, and sometimes can cause landslides in the mountains they occupy.
