Bitemporal Jaguar Species in Zantin | World Anvil

Bitemporal Jaguar

The Bitemporal Jaguar, or Vorthali Forest Jaguar, is a particularly strange creature, even by Vorthali standards, as current theories would have it inhabit two different timelines. This trait has proven to be most advantageous in the jungle making the jaguar one of the best hunters of Vorthal.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Jaguars are considered to be the third largest cat of Zantin, behind lions and tigers, and the Vorthali species is the largest of them. The Vorthali males can weigh between 200 to 290 pounds, with females being slightly lighter, between 180 to 270 pounds.   The fur of the forest jaguar is a reddish-brown with whiter ventral areas and is spotted with black rosettes. Its strange ability also gives the Vorthali jaguar a strange appearance; sometimes its body will become slightly transparent and a second figure will appear, in what is called temporal form. The figures will then quickly rejoin, as if one is sucked into the other, and the jaguar will return to normal.

Dietary Needs and Habits

"If I had to describe a Bitemporal Jaguar hunt, I would say it is as if you are watching two different hunts: In one, the jaguar dashes in anticipation of its prey, but guess wrongly and is left empty handed, but in the second hunt, the jaguar always guesses correctly."   -Ferdinand Hertalson
Although they are great climbers, Bitemporal Jaguars do most of their hunting on the ground. Their main diet consists of smaller land mammals, such as deer or Tapir. The time they spend in trees is during rest or as retreat from potential danger. They are known to be aggressive, especially towards Voran colonists, although the reason behind the partiality is unclear.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

As a cat, the jaguar has very good night-vision as well as acute hearing and smell. Besides this, theories about the jaguar existing in two timelines make researchers believe that it can react to threats instantly as long as it is in its temporal form, as its senses are not only doubled, but it can choose two different paths and decide which timeline to return to.
