The Spire of Kings

Ancient landmark and library that towers over large parts of the Kingdom of Valdorin and the Unchained Empire.

Created by NV for the Valdorin campaign
Hard to miss in the landscapes of the Kingdom of Valdorin and the Unchained Empire, the Spire of Kings towers over the cities, the lands and even parts of the colossal Jothrok mountains. The spire is estimated to be over a kilometer tall and garners much pride from the citizens in Westfold, the capital it overlooks.

Purpose / Function

Currently, the spire serves several functions. While the magicks of old have long disappeared from the realms, the spire is still in use as guard tower where eagle-eyed elven scouts watch the horizons day and night. Many of the floors of the spire serve as ancient library. Scholars and monks from around the continent, travel to Valdorin to ascend the spire on their pilgrimage.

Architecture

Having been governed by many warring factions, long stretches of the spire have different aesthetic qualities. The tall baroque foundations near the bottom of the spire hint at the land's ancient dwarven ancestry, whereas the stylized depictions of long-extinct flora and fauna above can be attributed to the various elven rulers that called these lands their home. With the rule of the half-elven Valdorins, the tower was opened to visitors of all creeds. Many have taken advantage of this privilege over the years. None more recognizable than the northwestern monks that climb the spire to attain invaluable enrichment. But also the more grounded elven hunting tribes refuse to accept fledgling rangers that have not yet climbed the tower to observe all of Valdorin in one glance.

History

Said to have decided the end of Demonwrath, the Spire of Kings lauded a new age for the northern lands of Autira. During the invasions of the demonic hordes the spire was used to decide many a battle as the sorcerer Mufahrim scouted the lands and signaled for enemy deployment and reinforcement plans.
