Tidebreaker, Sanctified Hull
Divine Shield of Myrryn Larthessa, Gift of the Deep Queen
Wondrous Item (Shield), Rare (requires attunement by a druid or cleric of Thal’vanna)
Description
Once the hull of the cursed pirate ship Blackstar Siren, this relic was salvaged by Myrryn Larthessa from the undead captain who once commanded it. Returned to the city of Azurlith as an offering to the sea goddess Thal'vanna , the fragment was sanctified before the Coral Throne — imbued with a single drop of Living Deepwater from the divine amulet Aquavanthe.
Now forged into a shield of holy brinewood and living coral, Tidebreaker serves as both armor and divine conduit, humming with quiet conviction when near undead or unblessed waters. It urges its wielder to reclaim purity and sanctify the Deep Queen's domain.
Magical Properties
- +2 Bonus to AC: While wielding this shield, you gain a +2 bonus to Armor Class.
- Reactive Brine Smite: When you take damage from a creature within 5 feet of you, you may use your reaction to deal 1d8 radiant damage to that creature as runes flash with divine brine. (Usable once per turn.)
- Sanctified Will: You have advantage on saving throws against being frightened or charmed while holding this shield.
- Divine Protection: While attuned, you may cast Protection from Evil and Good once per long rest (Wisdom is your spellcasting ability).
- Divine Light: When submerged in water or near undead, the shield emits dim blue light in a 10-foot radius.
Waters of Reclamation
Tidebreaker bears a divine burden — to reclaim and sanctify the Deep Queen’s forgotten waters.
Rite of Purification (1/Use)
As an action, you may perform the sacred Rite of Purification:
- Trigger: You encounter a body of water untouched by Thal’vanna’s Deep Current (blighted, corrupted, undead, or aberrant-infested water).
- Effect:
- You plunge Tidebreaker into the water.
- The Living Deepwater within is released.
- The water becomes consecrated, cleansed, and aligned with Thal’vanna’s will.
- Any undead influence is repelled or weakened.
Aftermath:
The shield becomes a mundane hull plate, losing all magical properties. To reclaim Thal’vanna’s blessing, the bearer must:
- Return to Azurlith and present the plate at the Coral Throne, or
- Complete a divine quest assigned by a herald of Thal’vanna.
Each Tidebreaker is unique, and each rebirth comes only through sacrifice.
