Order of the Gray Oath
Location: A hidden stronghold in the foothills of the Thunderhead Mountains, overlooking the Morgani Lowlands — a blend of swamp, jungle, and rugged cliffs.
Philosophy: The Order follows a timeless code rooted in discipline, restraint, humility, and service to the powerless. It rejects blind allegiance to any kingdom or authority, answering only to the tenets of the Oath.
Origins & History: For centuries, the Order was regarded as rebels and traitors for resisting unjust rule from Falinor’s monarchy. They often sabotaged royal operations, shielded the oppressed, and operated in defiance of state power. However, during the Great War, many Gray Blades fought and bled for Falinor, turning the tide in key battles and saving thousands. Their actions earned them a royal pardon and widespread popular respect.
Symbol: Members wear a gray sash across the chest. The wolf sigil — often etched into their weapons or armor — represents loyalty, protection, and quiet strength.
Membership: Though predominantly human, the Order welcomes any race who lives by the Oath. Elves, dwarves, half-breeds, and orcs — all are brothers and sisters under the banner of the Gray.
Structure: Once initiated, members become Gray Blades and are sent alone into the world. They may return only a few times a year for rituals, initiations, and counsel. Initiates like Arnoth must complete a Rite of Initiation — a journey through the world to prove their worth not through ceremony, but through unobserved action.
Reputation: In eastern Falinor, the Order is seen as heroic — saviors of cities and protectors of the weak.Among nobles and bureaucrats, they are respected but monitored — former rebels turned uneasy allies. For non-humans, including even orcs and goblinoid races, the Order’s symbol often mitigates distrust, allowing them to walk roads they might otherwise be barred from.
