Ogoth's Faewild Invasion, also referred to as Ogoth's Invasion or Ogoth's Regret, was a large-scale military engagement between the First D'Nalsi Empire and the Faewild's Autumn Court. Launched in the years following the First Era War, the campaign was intended to be a war of vengeance against the elves of the Glimmerhall Pact, many of whom retreated to the Faewild during the war's final years. The conflict nearly marked the end of the First D'Nalsi Empire, as the first Emperor, Ogoth Far-Treader, had nearly been killed during the invasion.
History
The First Era War Ends
In the final years of the The First Era War, it became clear to the leaders of the Glimmerhall Pact that there was little chance of success. The entry of the Kingdom of Vesteus forced the Khanate of Dirdror out of the war, and the betrayal of the snow elven tribes left the Pact vulnerable to attacks within their territory. Rather than sue for peace and find a neutral solution to the conflict, many leaders within the Pact opted to flee to the Faewild. Members of the Faewild's Autumn Court had offered the elves of the Pact refuge within their lands, and swore to protect them from potential retribution at the hands of the D'Nalsi Empire.
When D'Nalsian forces finally reached the capital city of the Glimmerhall Pact, the absence of the Pact's leaders frustrated D'Nalsian leadership. The Emperor of the First D'Nalsi Empire, Ogoth Far-Treader, viewed their cowardice as an insult, and swore to pursue the renegade elven leadership. After several years of preparation, Ogoth launched his invasion into the Faewild in 1,647 AB (1E 17). Ogoth would return to the Prime Material only a few days after departure, though having aged a decade since his departure.
The Invasion's Complications
The Prime Material and the Faewild do not experience time in the same manner. A night in the Faewild can last years on the Prime, and just as easily, a month in the Faewild can end with only seconds missed on the Prime. As none within the Empire were aware of this, the campaign had been planned without this fact in mind. The invasion relied on regular resupply shipments being sent to the troops within the Faewild, yet the campaign had ended before the first shipment was scheduled.
The invasion's chances didn't improve upon reaching the Faewild either, as Ogoth's forces were fighting the Autumn Court on their turf. While details from the invasion are slim, as only a few dozen soldiers managed to escape the Faewild, those that did spoke of living trees, warping stone, and ravenous skies. A battle which started in a blizzard would end in the desert heat, yet would last only minutes. The members of the Autumn Court had weaponized the very ground against the invading army, and Ogoth and his forces would be forced to suffer a decade of torment until the survivors were able to escape.
Aftermath
It would take weeks for the survivors to fully recover from the temporal shift that occurred, as their bodies struggled to realign with linear time. This period was filled with great uncertainty, as it was unknown whether Emperor Ogoth would recover and be able to lead. When he finally was recovered enough to lead, he ordered the closure and subsequent destruction of all Faewild gates within D'Nalsi territory, hoping to prevent any from having to experience what he and his men suffered through.
