Ogoth Far-Treader Character in Yrnath | World Anvil

Ogoth Far-Treader

Ogoth Far-Treader was a human from the D'Nalsi Islands. He served as general in the D'Nalsi Defensive Militia, and later became the first Emperor of the First D'Nalsi Empire. His resolve and dedication to the people of D'Nalsi proved to be invaluable during both the First Era War and the period of reconstruction that followed. Following his death, Ogoth achieved a deific status amongst the people of D'Nalsi, with a number of cults forming around him and his legacy.

History

Early Life

Much of Ogoth's early life has been shrouded in mystery and hyperbole. Some say he was born from the Islands themselves, giving life to their protective energy. Others have suggested that any number of gods may have played a hand in his creation. Whichever the case, these stories obfuscate a core truth about the would-be Emperor: he was an orphan. Outside the town of Vovikalur, a traveler discovered a ruined caravan. Inside, he found an infant swaddled in bloody rags. According to his account, there were signs of a struggle around the ruined caravan, but there were no corpses, suggesting the crew had abandoned the carts and the small child during the fight. The traveler freed the infant from the bloody rags, wrapping the child in another cloth he found amongst the wreckage, and brought the child into Vovikalur. The people of Vovikalur, disheartened by the discovery, collectively agreed to help raise the child as a community, to give him the support he needs. Not wanting to tie the child to any one family, one person suggested granting the child the familial title of "Far-Treader", as he was likely very far from his home, if he had one at all.

The First Era War

Ogoth, having found work at the docks of Denerith, was present in the city during the Glimmerhall Pact's raid. He watched from shore as the Pact's warships sunk the ship carrying the Vesteusan King, and barely survived their subsequent raid on the town. Forced to bear witness to yet another town getting destroyed by the elven oppressors, Ogoth set about pushing back. He would assemble the D'Nalsi Defensive Militia and lead a number of campaigns against the Glimmerhall Pact, both in the D'Nalsi Islands and in the Pact's home territory. Unwavering to a fault, he refused to compromise or negotiate with the Pact and their allies, even when his army had slaughtered a path to the Pact's capital.
