Monastery of Cohm-Toa

The monastery of Cohm-Toa is a monastery located at the top of Mount Uffraya, the largest mountain in the world. The monks of The Peak are dedicated to the preservation and cultivation of knowledge by defending history from those who might seek to corrupt it.

History

During the Invasion of Aegiyari in 4E 337, the monastery of Vaelun-Kor was destroyed by the Sanumic Combine. The monks of Vaelun-Kor fled north into the nearby Maulierre Mountains, carrying what historical texts and artifacts they could preserve. They took refuge in the caves around Mount Uffraya, working diligently to protect the few items they were able to take from Vaelun-Kor prior to its destruction. When the Combine was finally expelled from Aegiyari in 4E 341, the monks set to work establishing a new monastery. They selected the peak of Mount Uffraya, as the surrounding mountains helped to naturally defend the location from potential invaders.   Following the destruction of the Sanumic Combine in 4E 352, Cohm-Toa was selected to house one of the fragments of Sanum, an artifact created by the Combine to serve an as-of-yet undiscovered purpose.

Layout

Cohm-Toa is comprised of five towers in a ring around a sixth central tower. The five towers each represent one of the five original founders of Vaelun-Kor, with the six representing the survivors who were able to preserve the old monastery's knowledge. Each of the five outer towers holds living and bathing quarters for the monks of Cohm-Toa, as well as a number of small library sections. Each section is unified around a specific topic, such as First Era events or Pre-Blight cultures. The central tower contains the main library, artifact storage, and workrooms, as well as dining and food preparation facilities. At the peak of the central tower is a massive vault containing artifacts the monks of Cohm-Toa believe to be the most dangerous of their collection. Exactly which artifacts are contained within their vault is unclear, aside from the fragment of Sanum gifted to them in 4E 352.
