Tracker
Trackers are small carnivorous reptiles with the best sense of smell of any creature on Greenerth, able to smell a single of particle of a specific scent in over a hundred cubic metres of gas. They are often used by law enforcements in public spaces as sniffer animals to track down illegal possessions such as drugs.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Trackers have a soft leathery shell on its back, with a thicker rim around it. They have long necks and a long snout, ending in very large nostrils. Two small eyes sit on the sides of their heads giving them excellent peripheral vision, underneath small ridges commonly mistaken for ears, which are two small holes on the back of its head. Their scaly skin is a light brown colour, with dark orange stripes on their head and white circles on their tails.
Trackers have two small wings extending from their backs, which wrap around them when cold to conserve heat. They also can spread them upwards to absorb some sunlight, keeping them warm. These wings allow them to glide from significant heights, and averagely to glide up to 10 metres at a time.

Ecology and Habitats
In the wild, trackers live in rainforests. They eat many small insects and other critters they find scurrying through the thick undergrowth. They live in small tree cavities that they find close to the roots of trees.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Trackers feed on insects and small mammals.
Additional Information
Domestication
Many law enforcements use trackers to sniff out illegal substances in public spaces, i.e. airports, train stations, other vehicle stations, and market areas where illegal substance use is most common. Their small size go almost unnoticed in bustling spaces, which means their jobs are fairly easy. Trackers are kept in small boxes and are then released, let to wander the area and sniff out substances. They are trained to make a high pitched squealing sound when they find some, and the criminal is then arrested. They are trained in a matter of a few weeks, as they are obedient and fairly docile to creatures larger than them. They are usually trained by feeding them various insect treats.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
The large nostrils on the front of its snout give them the most impressive sense of smell on Greenerth. They also have small bumps on their snout, which act as receptors allowing it to detect minute movements. This makes trackers impressive hunters.

Geographic Distribution
saw that you asked for feedback over on the discord and figured I would stop by. just my thoughts after the initial read through. First, in the very first paragraph gas volume should be cubic meters, not square meters. just a quick fix, but something others will probably notice. Second question is can they fly/glide. Their weight suggests that they can, as 10g is as light or lighter than many common small bird species, while if they are similar to chipmunks or other rodents i would say somewhere in the 50-150g (or more) range would be more appropriate (and more likely considering you said they had a leathery shell). I personally think them flying or at lest gliding would work better as the places you have them listed as being used all have fairly heavy foo traffic, and with something that small being around that many feet, accidents and casualties are bound to happen. You have a good concept, just some small ironing out to do
Thank you so much for the help! I'll make alterations asap, and thank you for liking the article! :)
