The Dead Queen Myth in Yonderverse | World Anvil

The Dead Queen

Story

The mage Yorin, living in a small house in Orrios, has visions almost every day. He writes down all his visions. His dreams are plagued with these visions, every single night he will see predictions of the future, traumas of other people's past. The only way he can tolerate and deal with this is to write them all down. Only a year after the visions started occuring, he noticed that one of the visions he had seemed to have happened in real life, his pet cat got ran over by a horse. Of course he believed this so be a coincidence. Then, a second vision happened. This time, A fire occurred and burnt down the town hall.   He went through all the visions he had written down on papers and found the next one that would happen. This time, A tree would be cut down but would kill the two people who were chopping it down. He tried to convince the people to stop cutting the tree down in order to prevent these visions from happening. What he did not know is that these visions, not matter what, cannot be stopped.   After half an hour of pleading, he convinced the men to not cut down the tree. Unfortunately, the tree was already half sliced off, and the tree fell on the two men and crushed them. This severely traumatised Yorin, and he was left all alone, wondering what would happen next.   The next night, at the strike of midnight, Yorin had another vision. This time, a new Queen was born. Sadly, the same night the new Queen was born, she mysteriously died along with her mother. The Queen then, out of pure and raging anger, she haunted the castle and the village she lived in. The Dead Queen set alight the kitchen in the castle, and she stood outside it, watching the entire building burn down. Yorin woke up screaming, and he ran into the castle, bursting through the doors. As he entered, he saw the Queen being stabbed by the King, along with her baby. The king turned around and looked at Yorin with a burning glare. Yorin turned around and sprinted through the village, running into a large forest where he hid. He heard the yells of the King's soldiers as they searched for this man. Yorin was kicked out of the village, and he attempted to start a new life in the neighbouring village.   Three days later, Yorin heard news that the castle had been burned down from an unknown cause.

Historical Basis

This story was told after the burning down of Orrios Castle in 1304. Nobody alive knows if this story was completely made up, or was factual. Either way, many people delight in visiting the ruins of Orrios Castle to hear about this story.

What happened after?

After Orrios Castle was burned down, a new castle was built on a neighbouring hill, a little further away from the village. A few weeks after Yorin witnessed the double murder, the King had him assassinated by a secret fleet of soldiers that went undercover in the new village to find him. Yorin was buried in a nearby graveyard, confirming that Yorin was a real person. Still to this day, nobody knows if the events happened exactly as the story tells, only that Yorin was a real person, Orrios Castle was burned down and that the Queen and her new child "mysteriously" died. According to the story, the King was never found out, and remained in power for at least a few more decades, later remarrying and having a new baby boy.

Sounds like horrid is giften with prophecy. I pity him, its hard knowing the future. Very interesting though, with the queen and the eventuality of it all. Did Yorin get blamed for her murder? Did the king get away with it? Great article :)
