Gallor Roots Species in Yonderverse | World Anvil

Gallor Roots

Gallor roots are a common fungi species growing in humid climates in the swamplands and tropical rainforests of Aekor.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Gallor roots are a light brown, with a darker cap. The scales are noticeably large, and there are about 20 on a single cap. The stem is very long, growing up to 30cm long. The stem grows downwards from the roofs of the gallors that they grow in, growing in large clumps of up to 20. The cap faces upwards, with the stem changing direction of growth.

Genetics and Reproduction

Between all the gills of the gallor roots are spores that are released during Uribar, when the caps start to vibrate, and the spores fall out. Due to them being extremely lightweight, they float upwards to the gallor roof, where they bury themselves in the soil, and will eventually grow down.

Growth Rate & Stages

When the spores are buried in the ground, it takes about a week for the fungus to grow to its maximum length, 30cm. When the cap is decapitated, the stem can actually grow a new cap in its place, which takes just a couple of days.

Ecology and Habitats

Gallor roots grow in gallors, or large hollow hills. The spores of the mushroom attaches itself to the roof of the gallor, and the water that seeps through the permeable soil helps the fungus to grow. It gets its name from them growing from the ceilings like roofs. They can artificially grow in moist areas in houses, and florists like to create soil planters in the ceilings and have these growing from them, harvesting their caps to eat every few days.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

The caps on gallor roots can be picked and harvested. Tribes living in the rainforests often eat these mushrooms, as they provide many vital nutrients which would otherwise be difficult to obtain. Many Florists love to hang these mushrooms from the ceilings of their homes, in special soil planters drilled to the ceilings. The caps work well in salads, and they are commonly mass harvested by food companies.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Aekor is the only known continent that these mushrooms grow, despite gallors existing in rainforests in the Region of Sarra and the Tropics too. They grow in the moistest biomes on Greenerth, tropical rainforests and swamplands, coincidentally they both can be found in Aekor.

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms

You'll often find gallor roots and spider roots growing in the same spaces in gallors. They can combine their roots and take in nutrients at the same time and share them, benefiting them both. Funnily enough, neither of them are real roots.

I want a special ceiling container to grow these mushrooms in now.
