The Burning Sea War was a global conflict that took place on Sacaethea, and resulted in millions of pirates seeking refuge on other planets. There were many battles throughout this war, such as the Battle of Tretera. This war had a significant impact on several planets, as large concentrations of refugees can be found on a number of other planets in the Kurhira System, and in neighbouring solar systems.

History

Background

A collection of seven island nations form a ring archipelago, three hundred miles east of the Frish Archipelago. The Voll States were founded in 95 PW, as the several independent island nations formed this collective alliance. Alone, these nations are much weaker than the Frish, but collectively the Frish would not be able to take control, as they had planned on doing. The formation of the Voll States threatened the Frish government, and so tensions bubbled up.

Frish's Deals

In 87 PW, the Frish Government approached Savoll, a large island nation considered the capital of the Voll States. The government offered a deal - ownership of half of the island, and Savoll would receive large annual donations to encourage their migration to another island. The island of Savoll contains many rare minerals, and the Frish Government desperately wanted them. Savoll declined the offer and threatened the government with conflict if they did not back off.

Between the founding of the Voll States and the declaring of the Burning Sea War, the Frish Government approached each individual nation under the States independently, offering the exact same deal. Each nation declined and threatened war, as Savoll alerted the other nations of the Frish Government possibly approaching the other nations.

Frish's Fleet

The Frish Government became more and more desperate to take control of the Voll States, and in 20 PW they sent a fleet of armed forces to forcibly take control of an island off the coast of Savoll. The Savoll Government declared a state of conflict emergency, and all forces were sent to the island to eliminate the Frish fleet. They were successful, which pushed the tension almost over the edge.

War Breaks Out On Savoll

The Armed Forces of the Frish approached the southern beaches of Savoll early on 4 Kinvon 1DW. The first attack was on the tiny town Saville, a fishing town with very little defenses. This petty attack caused the nation to fire back immediately, sending a small fleet of seventy soldiers to annihiliate the Frish Armed Forces. They were successful, which sent the Frish running with their tails between their legs.

The Savoll Government foolishly assumed all was over, until more Frish Armed Forces approached from the north this time, on 9 Kinvon that same year. The FAF managed to take over the quiet town of Viesa. Using the height of its tree to spy on the rest of Savoll, Frish had all the power to continue annexing parts of the nation until it was entirely under their control.

Frish spent no time at all taking control of more towns and more regions. In the days after their annexing of Viesa, they took control of three more small islands and settlements, Ihesea, Alvon, and Blua. During this time, Savoll called for other Voll State nations to aid in their battle, every single other nation agreeing to help in some way.

Standstill

With military aid from Egrua, Stayc Ster and Mozkeau, the four nations were able to hold their own against the FAF. From 12 Kinvon to 17 Zaivon 2DWl both sides remained in their positions, forming a No Man's Land as the Strait of Savoll, between the FAF dominated island and the mainland of Savoll.

Two months before the initial attack, Frish formed a secret alliance with Volene, a small nation ten miles northeast of Savoll. This nation was surprisingly wealthy for its size as the third smallest nation on the planet. Expeditions around their waters had led to the discovery of large veins of gold and platinum around the entire island, which they promptly started excavating, turning into currency and bartering materials.

Because of their wealth, Frish intended on allying with Volene, in the hopes that both nations would be able to overpower the entirety of the Voll States.

While the Standstill continued, clandestine Volene Fleets approached the mainland of Savoll on the southeast coastline. Over the course of several days, the fleet trekked through marshes and tall-grass plains, heading straight for where the Voll State Army was on standstill, lying in their treetop trenches.

On 17 Zaivon 2DW the Volene Fleet reached the Voll State Army. Their surprise attack took out three hundred soldiers, almost a fifth of their entire force. The other side were quickly able to retreat, but instead of escaping they decided to use their knowledge of the mainland to their advantage and cornered the Volene Fleet, taking out every single one of their soldiers but two. These two soldiers were held captive and tortured in order to extract information.

After hearing about this attack, Stayc Ster sent a small spy force to Volene's mainland, to uncover any secret government information. Volene as a government is known to be rather public to its citizens about government plans, so long as other nations don't find out, so the spy force had to disguise themselves as Volene citizens. The spies reported back plans for several attacks, by both Volene and the FAF.

Frish Stalling

For the next fifteen years the Frish Government sent out tiny swarms of soldiers from their captive island off the Strait of Savoll. This was an effort to stress out the Voll States and to slowly wear down their armies, stalling while they design weaponry that could annihilate the inhabiants of the Voll States while keeping the islands in tact. But since all the information about their plans that the States could possibly want were already gathered from the spy fleet and the two

tortured soldiers, the Voll States were aware of Frish's goals and were not about to let them win.

While the Frish were stalling, the Voll States were designing a supreme piece weapon that would stop any and all attacks from the Frish. This would later be known as the Burning Sea, hence the Burning Sea War.

Battle of Tretera

The Battle of Tretera was the largest conflict ever seen on Sacaethea. The battle took place in Tretera, the capital of Savoll. The Frish and the Voll States had concocted their hellish weapons, so both sides agreed to meet in the centre of Tretera. The Frish Government assumed the Voll States were surrendering, which is why Vidnas Estro, their Head of Government, decided to meet by himself.

Or so he told the Voll States. In actuality, he brought five hundred Frish soldiers to take out the Voll State soldiers which would be parked in the streets of Tretera.

The Burning Sea & Surrendering

The streets of Tretera were lined with Voll State soldiers, which engaged with the Frish soldiers when the streets were stormed by the opposing nation. What the Voll States didn't know was that the Frish has lined ships all around the entire mainland of Savoll, ready to invade once Estro gave the signal.

As soon as Estro gave the signal, Staven Malva, Head of Savoll's Government, gave his signal to initiate the Burning War. Twenty stakes around the entire island were set alight, which poured boiling hot oil into the waters surrounding the mainland, setting it alight. This wasn't just any fire; the fire was laced with magic that prevented any Frishian from passing through, by causing such burning pains in their bodies that they commit suicide almost immediately.

This wall of fiery suicide is considered the most horrific act known to pirates, and many look down on the Voll States for passing such a monstrous idea. The Burning Sea set alight every single ship owned by the Frish and Savoll, and with wiping out their entire naval army, Frish immediately surrendered.

The Frish suffered the most, seeing their entire naval force of thirty ships and eight hundred pirates go up in flames. Frish also lost another 1,200 pirates to mainland battles and from the Standstill.

The Frish lost all contact with the Voll States after their suffering, and were forced to pay 20 million charms in reparation to Savoll, 9 million to Stayc Sher, and 1 million to the rest of the Voll States. The Frish also lost contact with Volene after their promise of land and resources fell through, which meant Frish became an isolated nation once again and had not a single ally.

Despite winning the war, the Voll States also lost a significant amount of soldiers. The nations lost 700 soldiers in total, half of which belonged to the Savoll Armed Forces. Around 16,450 other people were injured, both minor and substantially, most of which were civilians in the various towns the FAF were able to take temporary control of.

The Voll States disbanded shortly after the war concluded. Due to Savoll becoming uninhabitable after the fires reached the mainland and decimated the entire island, citizens of the nation were forced to flee. Many fled to other planets, and many sought refuge in other countries. Unfortunately, the firest managed to spread further and blazed through every single nation of the Voll States.

A total of seven million refugees were forced to find shelter. Since Sacaethea was a space-faring planet at this point, fleeing to other planets was not difficult. Many pirates found homes on Osao, Cilvarth, Ivucarro and even Karkhala, as well as several other planets from neighbouring solar systems.
