Mental Reformation and Resurrection

This is an expensive and complex ritual only known to have been successfully performed two times, both times the ritual was led by the ancient cleric Ari The Golden along with a team of individuals who provided material components and information about the subject of the ritual.

The ritual involves the modified and enhanced casting of a regenerate spell on an individual who's brain has been removed and the mind that once inhabited it has been consumed by an intellect devourer. The regenerate spell is used to regrow the actual brain matter and the ritual that goes along with it allows the caster to imbue the brain with memories and ideas that are core to who the individual was.

If this is done correctly, when a raise dead spell is used after three instances of the regenerate spell has been used on the brain, it is possible for the soul of the individual to be brought back and the individual to be brought back to life without any loss of memory or personality change.

Historically once an individual's brain was devoured by an intellect devourer resurrection magics rarely would work and on the rare instance when they did successfully resurrect someone, the individual who returned often had large portions and sometimes their entire mind erased and suffered from incredibly detrimental mental side effects as a result.

This ritual was first used when a group of adventurers were led to the Golden Cathedral by the light of Pelor which was a sign to the ancient caretaker that they should aid these people in their time of need.

Therefore Ari the Golden attempted to perform a ritual that had until that moment only been a theoretical thought experiment that she had mused on over the centuries.
