The Mechanical Spire

The Mechanical Spire is a supermassive, ancient construct located far in the north in the furthest reaches of the Spine. Seemingly constucted almost entirely of metal and towering over the nearby landscape it is seen as a marvel of mortal constuction. While claimed by several races, the non-euclidean architecture and strange marking along the extent of the structure are almost entirely alien to even the most ancient known constucts of the known mortal races. This has led to numerous theories ranging from an ancient extinct civilization, a marking left by the gods, to a practical joke left to leave the scholars of the world scratching their heads.

Purpose / Function

While the original purpose of the Mechanical spire has been lost in time, numerous theories have been put forward by people all over Yerava. The Ruin itself, of unkown origin is claimed by several of the sentient races as their creation, though the truth is still unkown.

Theories

Dwarven Construction

One of the most widely circulated theories within dwarven circles is that the Spire exists as apart of the Dwarven Moon Project. Another conspiracy theory, the Dwarven Moon Project states that early on in Dwarven history, following their freedom from Vrthrath, Dwarven mechanics had managed to create a massive flying ship that would be able to propel a Dwarven crew to the moon. At the time, the Dwarven Kingdoms did extend much further North into the Spine, and nearby mountain ruins do indicate that their were Dwarven settlements around the area of the Mechanical Spire. The dwarves that push this theory claim that the Spire was created as the platform used to launch their flying ship upwards into space and direct the ship towards the moon. While little evidence exists of any such ship, or even the Dwarven ability to make such a thing, the theory still persists.

Architecture

The Spire itself is made entirely of a strange metal compound. Completely unlike steel, iron, or bronze, the composition of the Spire has not been studies by metallurgists or mages due to the sheer remoteness of its location. The Spire stands at a height of about seven to eight hundered feet tall and is coated in a black paint like coating. Covering the surface of the spire are a series of golden inlaid symbols not resembling any of the currently known scripts or languages, although some of the symbols resemble some similarities to ancient Dwarvish, Yuan, Giant, and Proto-Human. The shape is that of a obleisk but with a rounded bulge in the center, rather than staight edges along its entirety, give it a strange non-euclidean profile.

History

The Mechanical Spire was rediscovered in the year 530 4e, by the semi-famous explorer Berin Longstrider. On one of his many explorations of the Spine mountains, Berin stumbled upon the valley the Spire is located in and his notes are now one of the most preeminent sources on the Artefact. Since its discovery, its remoteness has kept away most travellers, but several other expeditions have been attempted by others, with only a handful succeeding, and most others ending in failure or death. Because of this, knowledge of the Spire still remains sparse and little is still know about its origins.
