Berin Longstrider
Early Life
While little is known or shared publicly about Berins early life, he was born 541 4th Era in the northern city state of Illiabeck. Both his parents dying during his youth, Berin grew up in a series of orphanages throughout the city, Berin was known to run away frequently and eventually simply began living on the streets. However, by age 12, he found a home with a southern merchant, who, according the Berin himself, taught him everything he knew.
With his adopted father, Berin was allowed to travel to and from the city of Illabeck multiple times, visiting several of the major metropolises of the north, such as Evora, as well as the south most notably being the City of Spires. It is his journey to the City of Spires that is claimed to have inspired his wanderlust, and desire to see more wonders of the known world. While his father was never able to inspire a love of the mercantile lifestyle within him, he taught him everything he knew of Navigation, Bookkeeping, and Sailing.
At the age of 17 Berin left the city of Illiabeck for the first time on his own, taking the sailing ship "The Golden Wench" across the Inland Sea to the City of Spires. It is claimed that Berin spent the greater part of three years in the city, and it is here that he learned to play the Lute and learned to sing. He was not however entirely sedentary, and was one of the crewman led by fellow explorer and famous Spire guardsman Gallvan Di Monitallia, on the journey that first discovered the Shadowmen of the now aptly named Isle of the Shadowmen south of Durmista
