Lo-Cal systems

Lo-Cal systems, a play on low calorie and derived from the designation Low Caliber, are systems with few redeeming qualities (excepting the slipknot which deposits one there). Lo-Cal systems sometimes have systems that can be worth something once they're worked, but that may take significant time and resources - and with access to other systems which are far easier to work, Lo-Cal systems usually remain little more than stop points along the way.   Because they form long stretches of nothing in between, such Corridors are considered dangerous to travel - most non-military AetherShip can only make two jumps before they must refuel. They are, of course, a favorite of pirate activity in fringe areas simply because people will occasionally stop there because they have limited or no choices. In sparsely colonized clusters, one or more Lo-Cal systems forming a mandatory route to a populated system is called a Corridor.
