Meg

Megan Scott was a human leli from Earth. Known primarily as Meg, Lady Meg or, later, Queen Meg, she was first the concubine of Prince Feyrith Falynn and then the wife of Feyrith once he became King of Kaylux. She was widely known to be one of the more influential Queens, her and Queen Abby ruling alongside King Feyrith as equals rather than taking the less active role that had been expected of Queens in Kaylux’s history.

Accounts of Meg’s life in Xogia conflict at times, but we believe we’ve managed to piece together enough to create as clear a picture as is possible. That being said, there is every possibility that new findings will come to light in the future.

Meg arrived in Xogia in the year 1514 sometime in the late dry season, arriving in Kaylux at the palace in the early wet season. It is said that King Ivasaar Falynn rejected the maaron who attempted to give him this human as a gift, likely out of pride. Prince Feyrith was quick to accept Meg for his own instead, though his initial reasons are lost to history. Though Feyrith, Meg and Abby are known as one of the great love stories of history, it is unlikely that those feeling were there from the very start.

Lady Meira and her son Lord Alre were not fond of Meg or Feyrith from the very beginning, and it seems as if this may have been what caused the two of them to begin their attempts on Feyrith’s life and, later, Meg’s as well as Abby’s, once she arrived approximately a year after Meg.

Meg thwarted a number of the attempts on Feyrith’s life, and he protected her in turn. This is where most believe their love story truly began. A bond forged in flame, as it were. The two were very nearly inseparable, something that came to be true for all three as well once Abby joined them.

There are a number of theories about Abby’s role in this love story. While it was quite clear to everyone that Meg and Feyrith were deeply in love, things with Abby were less clear. There is no doubt that she was loved by both Meg and Feyrith deeply, it is only the nature of that love that is in question. At the time, in Kaylux, it was highly frowned upon for the King’s wives or concubines to be romantically involved with each other. Their affections were meant to be given solely to the King. However, there are accounts from those close to the trio that claim that Meg and Abby may have been as in love with each other as they were with Feyrith, and that Feyrith was aware of this and approved of it, even if it had to be kept a secret.

Of course, I must also mention the fringe theory that states that Feyrith, while married to both Meg and Abby, was only in love with Meg and had married Abby both out of close friendship and to allow Meg to continue being Abby’s lover. The typical dynamic that Meg and Abby would be sharing their King, shifting so that Meg was the partner being shared in secret. There is some evidence for this theory, but most will dismiss it due to the well documented adoration Feyrith and Abby shared, though those who adhere to this theory will argue that friendship can run as deep as romance and that it should not be dismissed that this might have been what Feyrith and Abby shared.

Contemporary accounts of Queen Meg paint her as a kind soul, though no less clever and cunning for it. Her mind was sharp, as were her words, and it is likely she was behind a great many more strategic decisions made by Feyrith than even those that we know of. Her sharp wit and occasional ruthlessness in no way stopped her from being beloved by the people of Kaylux. She was said to always be ready to provide whatever aid her people required, even if she needed to put herself in danger to do so.

Under the rule of King Feyrith, Queen Meg and Queen Abby, Kaylux entered something of a golden era. The people were cared for and systems were put in place to make sure this would continue after they were gone. In fact, these three were the last true King and Queens of Kaylux, as they insisted on implementing a more democratic system where the people themselves had no true rulers and would decide their own fate. After twenty years of rule and an additional eight years setting this new system up, Meg and her partners retired in their middle age to live out the rest of their lives comfortably.

There is less written about the trio and about Meg herself after this point, which is to be expected. What is known is that the three of them did like to at least eighty years old, and that their graves can be found together near the then capital of Kaylux.

There are unconfirmed accounts that suggest that the trio played a part in several major events that would occur in Kaylux in the years following their retirement, but those remain as simply theories. It would take a great deal of time to go over everything that is theorized to have happened, so instead I will leave you with this. Queen Meg was a fascinating figure, not only because she was human. She bent rules around gender and what it means to be leli, what it means to be Queen, and what it means to be a person in Kaylux and Xogia. She asked questions, pushed boundaries, did not hesitate to help those who needed it, and eventually helped change the very nature of Kaylux as a nation.

Without a doubt, she was one of the most interesting Queens to ever live.
