The Pale Mask

The Pale Mask is something of dual existence. The Pale Mask as an artifact is made of curved piece of aged birch that is splintered and pallid. When someone dons this mask, they take on the moniker of "The Pale Mask" (or simply "Pale Mask"). It is unknown whether Pale Mask is an immortal individual or a title passed down from one wearer to another. Additionally, it is unclear if the mask imbues its wearer with the abilities of The Pale Mask or if one bears the mask as evidence of pre-existing abilities.
In addition to the eponymous mask, those who identify as the Pale Mask wear several ribbons of dark gauze wrapped tightly around their frame that float gingerly behind them as if submerged in water before fading into nothingness as a black vapor. Sources state that the being possesses the ability to manipulate shadows, move large distances in a matter of seconds, and leave no trace of its presence apart from the corpse of its quarry. Knowledge of its existence is primarily maintained through the the occasional glance of The Pale Mask darting over rooftops. In recent decades, some have begun recounting stories of seeing a Pale Mask now sporting sone pieces of additional armor along their chest or arms. Though there is a lack of continuity on whether the figure's armor resembles spiked obsidian or the same form of petrified birch that composes the mask. Many long-term followers of the legend reject the premise of additional armor altogether,with some going so far as to say that the "gauze" iand humanoid body is simply a trick of the light, and that the Pale Mask is an amorphous being of shadow: it's mask serving as a totemic connection to Xelestar's realm. 
Some believe the Pale Mask is an agent (or several agents) of Lykora on account of their affinity for stealth and dark magic. Some even go so far as to believe that he was created to act out Lykora's will on Xelestar, serving as a cosmic opposite to The Pillars created by The Nascency .
