Tornyss Halfshield and the Civil Rights Movement
A dwarven miner from Brost, Tornyss Halfshield saw firsthand the treatment of non-humans during the Estalian-Disorganized Conflicts including abusive discipline, lowering of wages, and being forced to complete only the most dangerous of tasks. Despite this, she had a relatively happy childhood, mostly due to the calming presence of her father. Originally a stonemason before being sent to Brost, her father was known for both his eternal positivity and his intelligence. This rubbed off on Tornyss from a young age, as he taught her both how to read and write, and how to keep a positive of attitudes during the hardest of situations.
During The First Estalian-Disorganized War, Tornyss escaped the mine by serving as a member of on of the logistics regiments of the Silver Legion Auxillary. Although originally drafted as a cart driver, her skills at reading and writing, as well as her innate intelligence, brought her special attention. By the end of the war, she was assisting with the acquisition and distribution of supplies for Indeo Harvard's push into Aedan.
After the war, she returned to Brost to find that her father had passed away. As well, the human companions that she had made during the war had reverted back to the old ways, and continued to treat her and her dwarven kin like monsters. Thinking back to her father's lessons, she joined a group protesting the treatment of non-humans throughout Estalia. Despite facing harassment and accusations of being Romyians, Tomyss perservered and ultimately was critical in organizing the Civil Rights movement into a national organization, rather than individual groups.
