Strawback Otters

These freshwater otters are very popular pets for Estalians that live nearby the lakes and rivers of the region. Highly intelligent and independent, some owners are known to let them out first thing in the morning, just to have them return at dusk having already fed themselves. In fact, there have been cases where Strawback Otters have been able to understand simple mechanisms, meaning that sometimes they don't even need to be let back in, as they can open the doors themselves. As well, they are able to both understand commands and express themselves through a series of chirps, barks, and purrs. Their fur is typically a light brown, and is very coarse. This isn't a problem for most Estalians, though, as they are kept as pest control for invasive fish and rodents, rather than to cuddle with.
