The History of Wyral so far
Name: Nexhi, dragonchildren
Location: eastern Sukhyr
The nexhi, commonly known as the dragonchildren, were once a thriving ikayal race when the dragons still roamed the skies. Over time, though, as humans and other ikayal hunted down these majestic beasts, the dragonchildren were afflicted with a disease named the 'dracaln'. It caused the skin to flake and peel, the eyes to lose their sight and, worst of all, the afflicted lost their ability to use magic. All ikayal are reliant upon a connection with runic magic, and so the dracaln wiped the nexhi out nearly completely. However, the ruins of their cities were later populated by humans, and now a bizarre plague is spreading...
Name: Arwifal
Location: central Edohar
The elder kingdom of Arwifal was the last great ikayal nation. Its capital was named Aralifells, meaning 'stronghold unfallen', and it stood for over seven hundred years. After the utter desolation of the Endwar, ikayal and humans grew mistrustful of each other, turning to war in 284 A.E. With the fledgling countries of Krioris and Soltes pressing upon its borders from south and east, Arwifal's last queen travelled to the lost isle of Gwir, hoping to find a weapon to use against her enemies. She never returned, and so Arailfells was seized and Arwifal destroyed. Now only the embers remain of this stronghold.
Name: Khylu
Location: north-western Sukhyr
The ancient city of Khiloa Woln was a citadel populated both by ikayal and humans. Its historic significance as the place where unity was most upheld has caused many of the people's descendants to revere the site. The Endwar hit Khiloa Woln hardest; after the war when racial tension began to build, its ruined structures were simply abandoned. The land around, called Khylu by the descendants, is mostly barren earth and exposed stone which was never healed. But strange creatures have come to live among the ruins, even as some speak of rebuilding.
Current Species & Cultures
Name: Kriorii
Location: southern Edohar
Krioris was the first human nation to rise from the aftermath of the Endwar. Its people are proud and value their bloodlines above all, as one of the Cardinal Laws is that those with ikayal blood are considered inferior citizens. This creates a strictly hierarchical system, as anyone who even looks partly ikayal is shunned, while the purest lines are the noble houses and the royal family.
Name: Zefirua
Location: north-western Edohar
Zefiru is a more militaristic nation than its brethren. Its population is a mixture of several subjugated peoples and cultures; thus, the common Walker's Tongue originated here. Its capital, Oraia, is built upon and even within the slopes of a dormant volcano. The resident mages are confident that they can keep the volcano from exploding, but nature is not so easily restrained by its own magic. The Zefirua have been pushing outwards for over a century, claiming most of the lost nation of Arwifal as its own and disputing the Kriorii Mountains.
Name: Venirans
Location: across Ocea'ven
Ocea'ven, even more than Zefiru, is a hodgepodge of cultures, languages and peoples. The archipelago was formed during the Liron Years.
