The Tail Eaters

The Tail Eaters are an order of religious warriors and adventurers dedicating themselves to removing Animus Apparitions who proclaim or act as though they are gods, as well as their worshipers. Their symbol, a dragon-headed uroboros, represents their belief that, "any god grown from the Animus shall be eaten and returned to whence it came!" The Tail Eaters are a secretive organization with bases and outposts on every continent in the World of Wonder. They operate apolitically, recruit in the shadows, and serve only their stated purposes, of ridding gods and their cults from the World of Wonder as they arise.

Recruitment and Joining Ceremony

Tail Eaters are recruited by specialized members of the Order, called the Finders, who identify and test new recruits. Potential recruits in the Tail Eaters must prove themselves to a Finder, most often by completing a minor task or quest. After that, the Finder holds the Joining Ceremony.   In the Joining Ceremony, the recruit must imbibe a smoking concoction, the recipe and name of which are kept secret from all save for those made Finders in the Tail Eaters. After imbibing this liquid, the recruits, those who survive, are inducted into the Tail Eaters, knighted in the terms of their order as a, "Ser, " and assigned to one of the three areas of work within the Tail Eaters: Finder, Sender, or Eater.   Of note, imbibing this liquid and surviving often confers benefits on the drinker, most often in the form of new knowledge gained. (This manifests as gaining an extra feat.)   The Eaters are the most commonly assigned, as they are the ones who carry out the missions on behalf of the Tail Eaters. The Senders, meanwhile, manage their eaters, gathering information to identify and pass on the locations and actions of gods in the World of Wonder.

Hunting Apparitions

The Tail Eaters track and destroy gods and cults wherever they arise. Most often, these gods are demons created from the Animus, though celestials, fey, and other strange and wondrous creatures arise from the Animus. The Tail Eaters consider any Animus Apparition proclaiming themselves as god, or acting in such a way as to encourage the rise of cults or blind religious followings, to violate their belief, and they will stop at nothing to destroy such gods.
