The Greenmay of Ekalwyn

A Greenmay is an honored devotee of Ekalwyn, Goddess of Forests, Meadows, Streams, Ponds, Hunting and Fishing. They follow the path of the Anointed, rather than the Exalted, relying more on magic and diplomacy than swords and strategy. A Greenmay is always a woman. A male devotee of Ekalwyn is called a Vidra, and they will perform a similar role, with more of a focus on the nearby waters. There is room in most settlements for both roles. The Greenmay and the Vidra will both make their home in the Nurdiyan Grove, near unto the Wishing Tree.   The Greenmay has an important role in community life, being called by her goddess to bless and consecrate the groves, orchards and forests of the settlement. She will also be knowledgeable in woodcraft, tracking, and the creation of tools for hunting and fishing.   A Greenmay will be attired in medium-brown robes or tunic, with ruddy orange leggings/sash or other accents. The brown leather or cloth will be embellished with emboidered or laquered orange floral designs. Those of the highest standing wear a sash of orange and dark-brown "houndstooth-pattern" over their right shoulder.   The Greenmay is famous for her mantle or cape woven of leaves, branches, vines and flowers. This mantle stays green and fresh throughout the year, though some of the plants may change naturally, with the seasons. These mantles are said to have magical powers, allowing the Greenmay to perform miracles in wooded or flower-laden areas, much like a Swanmay's mantle allows her to transform into a swan.   A Greenmay may also be called upon by Ekalwyn to undertake a quest, perform a dangerous task, or aid the community in some other way that lies far outside the boundaries of the settlement.   Known Greenmay powers include:
  • Controlling fires
  • Plant growth
  • Blessing for a bountiful harvest
  • Weather prediction
  • Speaking with plants, birds and animals
  • Traveling invisibly in a forest
  • Conjuring Forest Elementals
  • Summoning birds and animals
