Thall

The Thalls are an ancient, celestial-like race that has existed since the dawn of the world of Thalas. Often referred to as the "Keepers of Thalas" or the "Gods of Thalas," they are deeply intertwined with the very fabric of the planet, acting as its guardians and protectors of nature. Their forms are ethereal and fluid, capable of shifting shape at will. A Thall can become the storm clouds that rage across the skies, the crashing waves of the ocean, the whispering winds across the fields, or even the very trees and forests themselves. They are bound by the elemental forces of nature and the core of Thalas—Anarith—an almost infinite source of power that flows through the planet. Although they have not been seen for ages, leaving after the Cataclysm, their presence is still felt in the natural world. The Thalls are revered as spirits of Thalas, embodying the planet’s raw power, beauty, and mystery, and are believed to protect its balance, quietly watching over the world they helped shape.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Thalls possess a unique and fluid anatomy, unlike any other race on Thalas. As celestial beings, their true forms are not bound by the conventional rules of mortal biology. They are shapeshifters, capable of assuming any physical manifestation they desire, from the intangible to the tangible. Their forms can range from clouds of storm, to waves crashing on the shore, to the whispering winds across fields, or even to the towering, ancient trees of the forests. These transformations are not limited by any physical constraints, as the Thalls are bound to the very essence of the planet itself, their forms shifting in harmony with the forces of nature.
While the Thalls can take on any appearance they choose, their true essence remains that of ethereal spirits, interconnected with the core of Thalas. Their physical forms, when manifested, can indeed be destroyed, as they are subject to the laws of the material world. However, as spiritual entities, the Thalls cannot truly die. Their spirits, bound to the heart of the planet, are immortal and eternal. Should their physical form be destroyed, they simply return to the core of Thalas, regenerating and reforming when needed, always tied to the land and the balance of nature. This makes them nearly indestructible, as their essence is one with the very fabric of the world.

Genetics and Reproduction

The Thalls do not reproduce in the traditional sense, for they are beings of pure essence, deeply intertwined with the planet Thalas itself. Instead of birth, the Thalls undergo a cyclical process of rebirth tied to the rhythms of the natural world.
When the time for a Thall to pass comes, their physical form—though it can be destroyed—dissipates, and their spiritual essence returns to the very heart of the planet, the Anarith core. This core is the source of all life and energy on Thalas, a powerful, almost infinite well of force that sustains not just the Thalls, but the entire world. The Thall's essence melds with this primal power, existing in a dormant state within the core, awaiting the right moment to return.
When the natural world calls for their presence, when balance is threatened, or when a new guardian is needed to maintain the harmony of the planet, the Thall's spirit essence is reborn. It emerges from the Anarith core, taking form once again when the world is ready to support it. In this way, the Thalls are eternal, not through reproduction, but through a continuous cycle of rebirth, ensuring that when nature requires their guidance and protection, they will be there—reawakened and ready to restore balance to the world.

Growth Rate & Stages

The Thalls, upon their rebirth, emerge without memories of their past lives. Each time they are reborn from the Anarith core, they are like a blank slate, their essence renewed and their consciousness free of the weight of their former experiences. However, as they grow and live, their connection to both the world of Thalas and their previous incarnations gradually strengthens.
Over time, the longer a Thall exists in the physical world, the more fragments of their past lives begin to resurface. These memories, though initially faint and disjointed, slowly integrate into their awareness, allowing them to recall their previous experiences and gain insight into the wisdom they once possessed. The more time they spend in the world, the deeper their connection to both nature and their former selves grows.
Thus, while they begin life without the burden of past memories, the Thalls grow in knowledge and wisdom over time, becoming more attuned to the world around them and more in touch with their celestial purpose as guardians of the planet.

Biological Cycle

The Thalls experience two distinct biological cycles, each deeply tied to their essence and purpose within the world of Thalas.
First Cycle – Spirit Cycle:
In their purest form, the Thalls are spirits connected to the Anarith core, the very heart of the planet. In this ethereal state, they are not bound by physical form but exist as energy, consciousness, and guardianship. During this cycle, they act as protectors and keepers of the planet, ensuring the balance of nature and the forces that shape the world. The Thalls in this state are timeless, with no concept of birth or death, for they are merely manifestations of the planet’s essence. They communicate with the land, the seas, and the skies, perceiving and responding to the ebb and flow of nature’s energy.

Second Cycle – Physical Cycle:
When the need arises, or when the balance of Thalas is threatened, a Thall’s spirit essence will reawaken within the core of the planet and manifest in physical form. This cycle represents their temporary existence in the physical world, where they become tangible, solid entities that can interact directly with nature and mortal beings. In this form, the Thalls take on diverse shapes, seamlessly blending into their environment, whether as part of the forest, storm, ocean, or sky. Though they are capable of shaping their physical appearance, they are still fundamentally connected to the natural world, their form always reflecting the elements they protect.

Once their physical form has fulfilled its purpose or once the need for their intervention has passed, the Thall’s essence returns to the Anarith core, where it undergoes a period of rest before being reborn. This cycle of rebirth ensures that they are never truly gone from the world but rather in a constant state of renewal, prepared to serve when their intervention is needed once again.
Thus, the Thalls’ biological cycles are intertwined with the planet’s needs and rhythms. As spirits, they are eternal guardians of the planet, and as physical beings, they live only as long as their presence is required, maintaining the balance of nature until their essence is called upon again.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The Thalls possess a profound and unique connection to the natural world, allowing them to sense, hear, and smell not with the typical senses of mortals, but through the very essence of nature itself. Their perception extends beyond mere physicality, tapping into the deep currents of the earth, the winds in the air, and the flowing waters that bind the planet.

The mountain Thall
Majestic, towering humanoid entity that embodies the essence of mountains and the unyielding strength of the earth. Its form is colossal and rugged, appearing as though it was sculpted directly from the rocky peaks it represents. The Thall’s body is composed of solid stone, jagged cliffs, and craggy outcrops. Embedded within its massive form are veins of glowing minerals and crystals, radiating a faint, otherworldly light that pulses gently, symbolizing the life force of the mountain. The surface of its skin is textured with layers of moss, lichen, and creeping vines, representing its deep integration with nature. Cascading waterfalls stream from its shoulders and arms, flowing down its torso and pooling at its feet, as if the Thall itself is a living source of rivers and streams. Its eyes, glowing with a serene amber or golden hue, reflect the wisdom of ages, as if it has witnessed eons pass silently from its immovable perch.

Conservation Status
The Thalls have long since withdrawn from the sight of mortals, choosing to remain hidden from the eyes of those who inhabit Thalas. After the Cataclysm, they decided to retreat into the depths of nature, no longer wishing to interfere directly with the lives of mortal beings. Their presence still lingers in the winds, oceans, and forests, but they are no longer visible, their ethereal forms concealed from those who might seek them out. The Thalls believe that their time of direct guidance and influence over mortals has passed, and they now focus solely on maintaining the balance of nature and safeguarding the core of Thalas. This deliberate distance is born out of a deep respect for the autonomy of mortal life, and a desire to let the world evolve without divine interference. The Thalls remain silent, their power and wisdom ever-present yet unseen, watching over Thalas from the shadows of existence.

The Mountain Thall’s movements are slow and deliberate, evoking a sense of immensity and permanence. Each step creates a deep rumble in the earth, as if the ground itself acknowledges its presence. Often surrounded by mist and low-hanging clouds, the Thall seems almost mythical, shrouded in an ethereal aura that makes it appear both part of the landscape and distinct from it. In its stillness, the Mountain Thall conveys an overwhelming sense of stability and protection, guarding the mountains it inhabits with unshakable resolve. It is a symbol of endurance, power, and the eternal, unchanging nature of the earth.
