Minerals Gems/Ores & Smelting Rules

Ore/Minerals are materials found in various geographic locations. These are used for making armor, weapons, and gaining special effects for those armors and weapons. These can be divided into two types and each type has their own uses. The extracting check is always DC 15. The character must make an Intelligence (Nature) or Wisdom (Survival) to find a vein or place where the ores or gemstones are. The use of Intelligence (Arcana) this grants you knowledge about the magical uses of the ores/minerals.
 

Mining

Ore
Ores can be extracted by an adventure by making a DC 15 Athletics skill check using appropriate artisian tool. An adventure can mine a total number of times equivilent to their Constitution modifier without having to make Constitution Savings throws. If an adventure attempts to mine an ore node above and beyond their constitution modifier they will have to succeed a DC 10 + 1 for every attempt over their modifier. On a failure the adventure incures one point of exhaustion.   If the character is successful in extracting ore, on a success they acquire raw units equal to 2d4 + Proficiency modifier. The DM determines the type of ore based on the various geographic locations based on the Region Tables (Exhibit 1).  
Gemstones
An adventure can prospect raw ore samples for the potential of Gemstones. The adventure would have to make a DC 15 Slight of Hand or Investigation skill check while using appropriate artisian tools.   If the character is procuring gemstones, The DM determines the amount of the gemstones found, or they can roll a d20 and compare the result with the following table(Exhibit 2). You can determine the kind of gemstones found using the tables on page 124 of the Dungeon Master's Guide.  

Smelting

  Smelting is when the Raw Ore is converted to a workable material unit. This process usually takes place within a forge. Adventures will need access to a forge and make a DC 15 Athletics Skill Check using an appropriate artisian tool.   Essense Smelting is the smelting process of various raw ore samples with magical essenses from other sources. This process also takes place within a forge setting, however it can also be done in various labatories as well. Adventures will need to make a DC 15 Arcana Skill Check using an appropriate artisian tool.   Before a character can use any raw ore in crafting of armor, weapons, and gaining special effects for those armors and weapons. The Raw Ore will need to be Smelted into units for crafting (Exhibit 3).
