Marches of Ranoke
The Marches of Ranoke are one of three sister nations who share the continent of Ryold. It is 22, 000 m2in area, and is located on the northwestern third of the continent. It shares borders with Risand and Ryfile, and maritime borders with the Oskksulian Protectorate and the Empire. The capital city is Ros.
The people of Ranoke can be divided into three primary ethnic groups. The Marchians are one, while the Marelis with whom they share their continent and waterways can usually be classified as Common or Deep Sea.
Population Centers
As a society with a lot of emphasis placed on waterways and trade, most of the large towns and cities are found on coasts, shores, rivers, or along particularly large streams. Smaller inland settlements are rarely larger than a small village or a couple of families. The capitol is called Ros. Languages

Ranoke is of low elevation, not much above sea level, and has no notable points of high or low land elevation. It touches the Whispering Sea, and is 22,000 m2. It has one large lake, Ruiet, which is fed by the Ruim river. It also contains a small portion of the Rums River which runs from Lake Reyim to Lake Ruiet as well as about half of Raues, which runs from Lake Ruiet to Lake Rage. Climate and Biomes

Ranoke experiences four seasons, but not a huge range of temperatures. They have fairly mild summers, rarely experiencing temperatures above 70*, but also mild winters, which rarely fall below the low 30s. They are more likely to categorize their seasons by the weather and growth patterns - a 12-week Flood season when the temperatures are the coolest and the wetlands, lakes, and rivers are the highest, a 6-week Sea-Storm season while temperatures are rising, a 22-week warm and mild grazing season, and a 12-week rainy season as cool weater returns.
Ranoke is an Oligarchy controlled by a ruling family. Those who are more closely related to the ruler of the province hold more power, while those whose families are further removed have little power.
Foreign Relations Together with Ryfile and Risand, Ranoke forms a Confederation. They are at odds with the Empire and its vassals, and fairly neutral towards everyone else.

The nations on Ryold have a thriving export business of peat, salt, and fish and other agricultural harvests. Their people are often quite skilled mariners and they are in high demand in shipping and trade operations worldwide.
