"I once had a great vision for this city. It was destroyed the night of the Chicago fire when Lodin and his cronies drove me out. I was bitter for a long time. Not for what I lost, but for what I had sacrificed that had proved meaningless in the end. I would trace back to my roots - to before my people were enslaved. It was there my eyes opened. I saw that while I had thought I had broken out of bondage, I had only been blinded to the bars of this cage. Although I was more powerful, although I was 'free' - I was still no different than the slave I once was on the Sugar plantation in the 1700's. Only this time, the plantation was one of blood. From there, a new vision formed from the crumbled ashes of the old. A vision for the future of not only Chicago, but the whole world."
Former Prince of Chicago, Maxwell escaped during the Great Fire of Chicago when his haven was beset by Lodin and a gang of Kindred.
He spent a long time away from Chicago building connections in South America, namely the former French colony in Saint-Domingue in the Caribbean. His travels across South America would take him through a quest of tracing back the ties through his ancestry. He would go to places such as Cuba, Puerto Rico, Nicaragua, Colombia, Colares and Mexico City. Building connections domain to domain.
Maxwell would return to Chicago in Modern Nights where he would form an alliance with Kindred in Chicago, gaining further influence. He would employ the Asylum Coterie to help with the issues rising of the re-emergence of the Sabbat. In particular he would take a shine to the Tzimisce member of the Asylum coterie, Jack 'Cannon' Davis, the two seemingly being ideologically aligned. Maxwell would employ the assistance of the wayward Archon's the Wolf Pack during the tumultuous early nights of the Fracturing when Prince Jackson went missing. When Jack had tried to make a peace offering to the Wolf Pack after an incident where one of their bikes had been damaged by the coterie, the Wolf Pack would try to intimidate both Elyse and Jack. When the true nature of Jack's clan was revealed, the leader of the Wolf Pack, Tyrus, would attempt to subdue Jack to apprehend him.
Maxwell would arrive to quell the situation. Maxwell would grab Jack's hand to bring him back to his feet, unbeknownst to everyone else Maxwell would send Jack a subtle message through the handshake. The message was simple, he was a friend. Incensed, Tyrus would argue with Maxwell about the Tzimisce's presence in the city. This argument would be short lived as Anarchist, Sgt. Duncan MacTavish would strike out at the Wolf Pack. Jack would save both Elyse and Maxwell from the scene - leaving the Wolf Pack to the attack from the Anarch. The Wolf Pack would be decimated that night, with Tyrus, Nitro and Vitas being the only survivors. Tyrus and Nitro would leave Chicago - while Vitas would get out of dodge and take a flight to his old agent's place in Munich.
In the aftermath, Maxwell would visit Jack and Elyse multiple times with his right hand, Eric Sharpe. He would 'gift' Jack one of the torpid members of the Wolf Pack, Dread, recovered from the scene of MacTavish's ambush. Jack would set up Dread as his own personal blood supply within his haven in the woods. When Jack would escape Chicago, he would reform Dread's face and dominate him with Tabula Rasa - wiping his memories from his being. Leaving Dread as a confused, hungry starving dog in Chicago.
Under the guise of Benjamin Garrison, Maxwell was facilitating some sort of human trafficking ring in Gary, Indiana. The coterie of Masquerade breach cleaners, The Friends of the Blood, would investigate a potential breach within Gary. They would discover that a bar owned and operated by Benjamin Garrison had humans lining the walls kept alive via IV - but in a comatose state. These humans were to be trafficked for unknown reasons and delivered to be delivered to the beach of Lake Michigan under the orders of Sheriff of Gary, Owen Salone. While the Friends of The Blood would confront the other issue in Gary, namely the Sabbat Seven Flame members, Mother of All Thin-Bloods Sister Riley and the Slayer Brother Grymm, they would not discover the truth behind this trafficking ring and Benjamin Garrison's identity. As it would turn out, these humans would be taken out to lake Michigan by the Gary Camarilla where their blood would be spilt into the lake.
During the night of the Asylum Elysium, after Critias' outburst when his lover was murdered by member of the Seven Flames, the vengeful artiste Mateo Garcia - Maxwell would force himself into the table with the power players of Chicago under the guise of being Brujah representation in the absence of Critias. His suggestions would eventually lead to the Power Players decision to choose mentors to oversee the Asylum Coterie. Maxwell would take a step back from the Asylum Coterie at this stage as his closeness with them had left him with a weaker hand at the table with the power players.
Before Jack left Chicago with Elyse, he would meet Maxwell at his haven. Together they would discuss the future and what Jack's next steps will be. While going through the basement of his townhouse, Jack would see the torpid bodies of multiple kindred on display. Maxwell would call this his collection of fallen kings. Of note, one of the torpid bodies was that of the missing Prince Kevin Jackson.
When Critias defected from the Camarilla to the Anarchs, a seat was left open in the Primogen Council for the Brujah seat. Maxwell would swoop in and take the vacant seat. Many seeing this as his ascent back up Chicago's hierarchy.
After the Young Undead Coterie formed, they would use their boon gained for dealing with the Abomination, Harold Goodston, to meet with Maxwell. They would discuss with Maxwell his ambitions and his vision for the future of Chicago. During this, Ace would offer his services to Maxwell if he was in need of anything in exchange for a favour, while Maxwell was appreciative, he would tell Ace there was nothing currently on his docket - but he would keep it in mind. Maxwell would pull strings to get the Young Undead granted entry into the Chantry so that Trinity could further investigate her lineage.
With the threat of the Sabbat silenced for now, many look at perhaps it is time for the General to stand down and for a Prince to claim the city once more. Maxwell has made it no secret, he would like to see himself as Prince of Chicago once more.
