Hook Man

Jacob Karns

Another urban legend that turned out to be the real thing was Hook Man. The Hook Man was a ghost of a preacher named Jacob Karns; Karns had a silver hook in place for a hand he lost in an accident. In the 1800's Karns was angry with the red-light district, and one night, went there and killed thirteen prostitutes with his hook-hand. He was caught, and executed for his crimes, but he later came back as a ghost and went after people he thought were immoral. Given how strict his standards were, that meant just about anyone.
