Constructing or Expanding a Building in World of Arith | World Anvil

Constructing or Expanding a Building

When constructing a building, the player makes a list of the component rooms that they want in the building. While configuration is not important, remember that all rooms have a base size, and creating that gigantic grand ballroom may take more than one component.   The character must acquire rights to the land unless they are building in a wilderness location.   After making a list of all components, add up the cost for the construction. To determine the time needed for construction, divide the total cost by 1,000 and round up. This is the number of weeks needed to complete the building.   A character may construct a large building in stages, adding on to the existing structure after acquiring more gold through adventuring. In this case, use common sense when building. (you can't add a third floor before the second or make the second floor larger than the first floor, etc.). Some rooms can be upgraded to more expensive rooms with the cost being the difference between the original room and it’s upgrade (ex. A common room can be upgraded to a Ceremonial Room or a Throne Room).

Below is a list of component "room" sorted roughly by type.

If you are trying to put an Alchemy Lab in your village dwelling, you would need to travel to the nearest town or city and arrange for the work, which could be more expensive, or require a favor in return.

Maintenance Costs

Some rooms have maintenance costs, weekly costs to keep the room stocked and operational. If the room is being used as part of a business, the room's maintenance costs are considered part of the business' maintenance costs.

Room Upgrades

Room Creation Costs assume building from scratch. Some rooms can be upgraded to more expensive rooms with the cost being the difference between the original room and it’s upgrade (see below).

Reconstruction

When reconstructing a damaged or abandoned room halve the costs and round up.
