The Mephitic Wolf

Clark Von Clark, an inventor and self-proclaimed naturalist, posited the existence of what he called the "mephitic wolf." These creatures, he claimed, lived deep in the outskirts of the populated areas around Shertoona.   These wolves were reanimated, he claimed, by unknown forces, bringing them back to life as a wholly new species. Distinct from the curse of undead, he claimed this reanimation to have an origin from the natural world, and thus made the creatures immune from any form of divine thwarting.   A prolific photographer of landscape and wildlife, he presented a photograph of a menacing and distressed wolf as evidence, after months of arguing his case. The photograph was placed in a local museum. Upon being seen by a local lore master, it was determined to be a hoax, and merely a photograph of a work of taxidermy.
