Personal history

Orphelia from a young age was fascinated by magical items, starting with the minor oddities her father had acquired from his travels. As a child, she would relentlessly try to figure out their secrets, and only grew more interested in them when she couldn't. As she grew older, she started to gain control over her own inherited magical abilities, which only caused her love for magic to grow even stronger, and so her fascination grew into an obsession. At only six years old she had already decided that this pursuit was her dream, and became determined to join the Lamian Guild of Oddities. Despite her parents concerns of the guild's small size and status, they couldn't bring themselves to deny her passion, but they nonetheless insisted that she at least wait a couple years to give it some more thought. Reluctantly Orphelia agreed, but her determination remained, and she managed to convince her parents to negotiate access to the Guild's library. Orphelia spent her early years of associating with the guild slowly collecting minor magical trinkets, while spending most of her days obsessively doing research in the guild's library, and her nights at home telling her family everything she had learned that day. By the time she was an early teen, her fascination with magical items had grown significantly, now incorporating a desire to spread her love of them. However, for a long time she couldn't think of a way to do that efficiently, and so she resided to continuing her constant research and hoarding. At the age of 14 she officially joined the Guild of Oddities alongside her childhood friend Zephas Atrosi in the same ceremony her younger sister Odessa joined the Guild of Alchemy, and with her sister's help she fashioned her Guild Pearl into a necklace.   At the age of 17, an official courier arrived at their house during dinner one night, bringing an invitation for her father Ayden from his home kingdom of Everethe to open a kingdom-sponsored store in the famous market district of the capital of Primrose. Despite it being his dream throughout his travels, he didn't want to uproot again after so long, and ultimately declined the offer. However, Orphelia realized that this was the opportunity she was looking for: not only would she not have to pay a guild fee if she was sponsored, but selling magical items in a specialized shop would be a perfect way to spread her obsession with others - and she would have a much easier time keeping an inventory with a sponsorship, too. Before the courier left, Orphelia begged both her father and the courier to let her accept on his behalf, and even offered to split the sponsorship with her younger sister Odessa, who had joined the Guild of Alchemy several years prior (and had also recently risen into The Five). Catching both her father and sister off guard, the latter didn't take long to join in with the request. Now realizing the opportunity himself, their father conceded, but the courier chimed in, explaining that the invitation was for their father only. Fortunately, the sister's dejection didn't last long, as after a moment of thought the courier informed the family that he was willing to take a chance on them. He explained that while he couldn't say anything officially, the Kingdom of Everethe has a well established relationship with lamia merchants, and thanks to their reputation he personally felt that it shouldn't be too difficult a negotiation to allow the sisters to accept their father's invitation, but there was a catch. As a courier, he couldn't make a guarantee, and the only way they could have the invitation changed is if Orphelia and Odessa returned to Primrose with him in order to negotiate themselves. Before leaving for the night, the courier parted by saying that he will be returning to Everethe in a week, and he would stop by to receive their official decision before he left, and advise them to start preparations just in case. It didn't take more than a day for the sisters to decide that even if they didn't get the sponsorship, traveling to Everethe was nonetheless a golden opportunity to make names for themselves, and worst-case scenario they could find work with the Guild of Alchemy, which is large enough to have an embassy in Primrose. The spent the rest of the week making preparations and goodbyes, and left with the courier upon his return.   Shortly after leaving Orethessis, the sisters realized they had a stowaway with them, an orphaned kobold child named Shiny, who dreamed of becoming an adventurer. After an impressively short debate with the courier on whether to bring him back to town, they decided they found him adorable, and agreed to take him with them in exchange for him acting as their assistant while he was with them. Upon arriving in Primrose, the courier had the now-trio set up in lamia-accessible inn while he attempted to schedule a negotiation with Princess Premier Pryia Everehthe, who directly oversees the kingdom's sponsorships. In the end it turned out that scheduling the negotiation was the hard part, as once they were able to receive an audience with her they were approved almost immediately, and ended up spending most of their allotted time in conversation, becoming fast friends. In all, the sisters were not only granted the full sponsorship and shop location that was offered to their father, but Pryia decided to invest in them a little more, striking a deal to help partially stock their inventory at the kingdom's expense in exchange for the sisters providing some of their merchandise free of cost to certain individuals when specifically requested to do so by the kingdom. Over the following years the sisters established themselves as the go-to place in Primrose for their trade, and over time Pryia herself became less of their sponsor, and more of their friend.
