Giant Mountain Sloth

The Giant Mountain Sloths were a species of large sloths that were native to the northern mountains of Panders and Dijit. They were seen as a symbol of Panders back during the days of the Shogunate, and were the original official provincial animal of Panders when it joined Woodangees. The sloth still continues to be an important part of Pandaran culture.   The Giant Mountain Sloth was a large ground sloth roughly the size of a cow, and were sometimes saddled by the people of Panders but were not very fast mounts, but could be used to transport people and goods through the mountains. The population of the Sloths steadily declined as their habitat was lost and their food became more scarce, and as Panders tried to preserve its population the nation of Deamona deliberately killing large swaths of them during the Fishbone Wars. Even after Deamona was wiped out and the Fishbone Wars ended the population continued to decline until the only confirmed Mountain Sloths were in captivity. While efforts were taken to ensure their survival, a virus outbreak that hit the Zoos in Panders, Dijit, and Ontangees, killing their populations. with only the Zoos in Niccadia and Tynica had surviving sloths afterwards.
