Arctic Tempest

Every winter in the Triol Islands, a malevolent storm overtakes the land, forcing the citizens of the Asmya Kingdom to hide within the Emsronto Gorge for an extended period of time.

The storm starts off as a small snowstorm in the middle of the coldest month of winter, Derin. The tourists who don't understand how horrific the storm can be, they'll just brush it off. Yet, those who were born citizens grew up with the knowledge of the storm.
As the season grows darker, the temperatures start to plummet and thick, gray clouds form in the sky, blocking out the sunlight over the entire region, leaving ice and snow everywhere in its wake. Blinding fog settles in, obscuring the vision to the point nobody could see six inches in front of their face.
This type of storm typically lasts over the course of two weeks, taking its time on destroying everything in sight. By the time the storm is done, the entirety of the land is in ruins. The capital, Asheris is barely left standing, save for the building imbued with magick, such as the palace, the Circle of Magi, and noble houses. Lower-class citizens are left to fend for their homes as best they can, with whatever resources they can gather at their disposal.

Localization

The storm first appeared in 874 TA, nearly wiping Asheris off the map completely. After many years of suffering at the hands of the storm, bards and other soothsayers began telling stories of how the people survived the harrowing experience. Legends refer to this storm as the Time of Frozen Dreams due to the longevity of being in hiding for a couple of weeks as the storm progresses. Some see these times as a way of gathering the community together. This is a time of community, hope, and perseverance.

Triol Islands

The islands are usually hot and humid with the only cold weather appearing via the storm. Per the main island's design, citizens of the Asmya Kingdom built directly into the mountainside of the Emsronto Gorge. This mountain pass has been dubbed the a Beacon of Salvation by the citizens.
