"Do not write off my people for the length of their ancestory, but instead take note, that the Perutians show Roscrean strength to not only the Dwarves and Elves, but to the still untamed wilderness of Roscrea."
-King (Bilgram) Balgrough
Perutian refers to an ethnicity within the Roscrean Empire. They are found in the northeastern corner of the Empire, primarily within the borders of Kingdom Perriot, from which their name derives. Perutians are the latest ethnicity to be created, since the Northeastern Expansion in 7425. They are known for their great scoutsmanship since most of their land is yet to be tamed, and make great scouts within the Roscrean Military, with the best and most sought-after scouts being Perutian. They have also had to deal with the Trolls and Ilea that come from the Shrewrose Peaks and the Troll Hills that make up their geographical border, and so they have become expert trap makers and engineers in dealing with larger foes. Several troll and Ilea hunting guilds have been founded within Perutian Lands for that exact reason.
Culture
Perutians have developed a rich countryside to the southeast of City Perriot, making use of the green hills and small lakes within the region. Fields are often used for animal husbandry, a practice that has traveled up north since the popularization of it from the Plainsmen to the south. Frequent trading occurs between the Perutians Northmen, and Plainsmen, making well-paved roads in the south and west of the region and many small trade stops.
Little Roscrean military presence is found outside of the settlements, and occasional patrols on the roads lead to an overall freer lifestyle compared to the rest of the Empire. This has also allowed bandits, outlaws, and cults, especially Dwarven and Elven, to reside within caverns and barrows of the Troll Hills, making the less-trodded roads of the north more dangerous. The Perutians also make use of the Kenhardt River that separates their lands mainly from the Northmen. Trade is sent down the river, and a fishing culture has emerged. The river separates the city of Perriot in two, making it used for freshwater within the city, as watermills are constructed in it.
Coin pressing has become a popular hobby within Perutian culture, specifically in the town of Marcoin, where long lines of famous coin pressers that make much of the currency for the Empire is found. They often compete with the smiths of Esterwatch to see who may produce the highest quality gold and silver coins.
The Perutians still hold to an ancient practice that was passed down from the Serian Tribe, which is to keep your dead in necropolises instead of average graveyards. The Perriot necropolis is a fine example of this, as is the Ogrerun necropolis. The Peruitans share with practice with the Northmen of the Telgen Peninsula.
Perutians are also excellent trap makers, especially those around Ogrerun, as they often try to trap trolls and Ilea that come down from the mountains and raid their villages. The heads of the trolls and Ilea are sometimes cut off and traded for with the Lovians who use their heads in their practices which the Perutians think strange.
Perutians also make excellent ambassadors for the Empire, as of their close proximity to both the Dwarves and Elves on either side of their mountains. They often intermingle with both in their land, and their relationship with the Elves is far less tense than it is in the Drugaden Pass.
History
The Perutians first came to their land after a decree went out from Emperor Barmut Cyces to inhabit the unused land of Northeastern Roscrea. A great amount of Roncrians went forth to expedite the land and found it useful and rich, yet untamed. They quickly settled around the Kenhardt River, led by a man known as Malvance. However, a tribe of men that had lived in the region since the landing of humans in Roscrea, were already settled in the region. They were known as the Skeld. When the settlers were asleep, the Skeld attacked them and killed many. Malvance was able to round up the settlers and counterattack the Skeld, ultimately destroying their village, but some would escape into the Dark Pine Woods.
The founding of the Kingdom Perriot and the construction of its capital, city of Perriot, began in 7425 3E. The city grew strong and healthy, partly in thanks to the Dwarves and Elves that helped them settle the land. In 7427, the village of Ogrerun was also settled and mining operations quickly began along the Troll Mountains. The tremors of the mining awoken the nearby trolls in the hills, particularly an established clan known as the Black Arms. The settlers of Ogrerun and the Black Arms went to war in what became known as the War of the Hills. The war ended in a stalemate, with no clear winner emerging victorious. Ogrerun had been sacked, yet the leader of the Black Arms was killed. The two would go in an uneasy peace, with Ogrerun being rebuilt and the Black Arms staying in the region, and till present day, continuing to attack one another, with other troll clans joining in as well.
The town of Marcoin was settled in 7430 3E. It began as a simple tradepost along the Greenheart Road, but soon blossomed into a full-fledged town. Gold ore from the nearby Troll Hills as well as traded ore from Lovia in exchange for Troll Heads was acquired and from it, coin pressing became a popular profession. Famous gold pressors were created, such as Ambrosa Stuel, who challenged the smiths of Estherwatch to coin pressing competitions.
In the same year, the newly formed Green Dragon Brigade that guarded the Kingdom, was ordered to march into Greenheart along with the Concilators s and kill any heretics that worshiped the Warrior Gods of the region.
In 8004 4E, the Skeld would return from the darkness of the Dark Pine Woods, led by a mysterious figure known as Zeevicus, who turned out to be an agent of Seria. Perriot was almost sabotaged, with the barracks being set aflame, the water mill breaking, and information of the Green Dragon Brigade being stolen, but each was thwarted by Greg, Paul, and Sarah.
Not too long after, Perriot became under siege by the Skeld, but they were able to hold out long enough thanks to the efforts of Greg, Paul, Sarah, Elthor, Cathlin, and Bilgram Balgrough, before Roscrean calvary came for reinforcements and destroyed the Skeld once and for all.
