Latorah (Lah-Tor-Ah)

Latorah is an island within the Sea of Ending, and sits off the coast of Valtul and Kalasier. It is is filled with misty forests and rolling plains. It is sometimes dubbed the "Mediator" between Valtul and Ashuran, who have never had peaceful relations with one another. It is home to a peaceful and gentle, yet large race known as the Willaboe, who worship the mysterious Wisp of the Pond. The island is home to smaller native species of less intelligence, such as the Allqui, a rhino-like species with two arms for a horn, and the flying Cefar, which make household pets for the Isitarians.

Geography

The north end of the island is mostly flat and plain with beaches on its coastline, before gradually sloping into hills that separate it from its lush center, which is filled with great mists and lazy forests, where the Willaboes hang from branches and climb their great heights to eat the delicious fruits atop them. A gret pond sits at the center of Latorah, reportedly home to a mysterious figure the Willaboe worship known as the" Wisp of the Lake".   To the west of Central Latorah lies an unnamed mountain range that makes its coastline rugged. This has detered the Ashuranians from colonizing the island and foiled attempts to do so. The south of the island is near-tropical, with palm trees and beaches on its coastline. The south is home to ruins of past Valtul colonies on the islands, which the Willaboe consider nothing more than playgrounds now.   Latorah owns a few islands as well, most notably Lral Isles off its Northeast Coast, which were colonized by Valtul and who own some degree of influence over them to this day. A smaller island that looks like a horizontally flipped version of Latorah sits off the Eastern Coast of Central Latorah. A smaller unnamed island sits off its Southeastern coast.

Fauna

The purple flower known as Liluns are grown on Latorah's plains and decorate the hair of many noble Ashurans. The island is home to huge blades of grass as tall as an average Human. Delicious fruit reportedly grows off the tops of large trees that the local Willaboe.

History

First Era

It is unknown when Latorah first became home to the native species, but the Willaboe consider the Wisp of the Pond to be their creator. Their legend goes that she grew them like the tall blades of grass but loved and fed her creation so much that the grass eventually became the fat Willaboe of today. She then created the Allqui as the guardians of the Willaboe, as she put no hatred or violence in the heart of the Willaboe.

Second Era

In the early Second Era, Kingdom Valtul would set their eyes upon lands beyond their subcontinent, such as Latorah and beyond. They would colonize the Lral Isles off the Northeastern Coast of Latorah. During that time, the Ashurians would also seak lands beyond their own. The two would meet in Northern Latorah and combat would eventually ensue. The Willaboe would watch with curiosity as they ate their fruit as both sides fought. Ashuran would prove victorious and pushed them into Southern Latorah. The Ashuranians would prove uncomfortable with the large Willaboe and would fail in their colonization efforts in the north, and they were unable to colonize the center due to a large mountain range that made the coast too rugged.   The Vaultulnese would colonize the south, building some settlements, but the Wisp of the Lake, angry with such developements, and drove them away with her power. Kingdom Vaultul has ever been bitter over their loss and have sought to conquer the rebellious island once and for all.     Sometime during the late Second Era, the Isitarians set up hunting camps in Northern Latorah to harvest the hides of the Allqui and capture the Cefar.

Third Era

In 6033 3E, after Malbis's defeat and his unleashing of Xyocus, Kingdom Valtul fell into ruin and the Tree of Eyes was his to control. Wanting to spread his rot to other lands, Malbis ordered the Knights of Shadow to launch an invasion into Latorah.   Latorah was invaded in 6200 3E, and the Allqui, which had been reduced due to the Isitarian hunt camps, were unable to hold back the forces of rot. Malbis's forces trapped the Wisp of the Lake in a magical prison in her own pond, and the Willaboe were put into slavery by their hand.   In 6500 3E, a Roscrean trading ship to Ashuran carying Captain Morthel Gringram and his family were passing by Valtul after being misdirected by a strange mist that have overtaken the Sea of Ending. The ship crashed on the Northern shores of Latorah. The Knights of Shadow arrived and slaughtered many of the survivors and took some captive to expierment on later. The sole survivor was Emme Gringram, the young daughter of Morthel Gringram. She would come in contact with a Willaboe that had evaded his family's capture. She would affectionately call him Willow, and the two would journey across Latorah, the Peaks of Gorge, the Crests of Sorrow, and Valtul to stop Malbis and the Knights of Shadow.

Fourth Era

In 8001 4E, the Strivund Dynasty worked with the All-Father to make worship or even belief in the existence of the Wisp of the Pond illegal within the Roscrean Empire.
