Cascadia

Cascadia is a country found within the western part of the former North America. Based on a former ideal about establishing an independent country along the Cascadia Bioregion, the modern-day Cascadia came about just before The Withering, but managed to survive the chaos that arouse in its aftermath and thrived-- as best as one can in the new world, anyhow.

Focused on achieving peace and parity with nature, the structures found throughout Cascadia tend to lean towards green power-- with a large amount of plants and greenery being integrated within the design layouts of homes, offices, and more. There's a reliance on using energy-sources such as Solar Panels, Windmills, and powerful Edenite Batteries to give the city power.

Culture

The people living in Cascadia tend to appreciate the plant-life around them more than the other countries, with a large market to be found within Cascadia for the purchase and maintenance of flowers, trees, and various other types of shrubbery. A good chunk of the population are farmers, feasting off of the land and thriving from the fruits grown from it. As with most other countries found throughout the world, a common belief throughout Cascadia is operating based on your own ability, and your needs determining what you receive. People will get the necessities they need to live, and they will work depending on their skill sets, whatever it may be.

Unfortunately, even with the benefits provided and with the peace achieved with living in accordance to nature, various mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety are heavily prevalent throughout Cascadia-- mostly due to the fact that The Withering has ruined the world. About 20% of the population is affected by Wither as well.

Needless to say, citizens have access to healthcare for obvious reasons.

History

Originally, Cascadia was just an idea that had born fruit over the ages, only truly becoming a thing within the turn of the century.

It would be during the turn of the century when a movement for the formation of Cascadia would explode in popularity due to a large variety of factors, such as the increase in government surveillance becoming an increasing concern and a growth in dissident against the US Government's involvement with the Deepcore Foundation. This would culminate in the 2016 Elections, where a large chunk of the population were shocked and appalled by the results of the election.

Eventually, Cascadia would begin with the states of Washington and Oregon both succeeding from the rest of the United States, both states uniting to form the beginning of Cascadia. This would spark a minor civil war between the two states, one that was thwarted due to a combination of magic being used by various Arcanists to lock the country away, and the failure of the President to take the issue seriously. British Colombia, one of the districts of Canada, would be hit with the widespread appeal for the Cascadian movement, with them eventually succeeding from the country as well and merging itself with Cascadia.

After the 2020 Elections and the disaster that followed that event, Cascadia would thrive for a long while, adopting various policies that would allow for the push of various green policies. Cascadia would become visible to the rest of the world again afterward. The U.S. Flag lost two stars. Eventually, California would express an interest in joining with Cascadia, though the legal proceedings for this were halted by The Withering occuring.

Cascadia was one of the few countries that made it out of The Withering, though not without casualties. Thousands had died, including a good portion of the government. Not to mention that a lot of infrastructure and homes were destroyed from the Earthquakes that occured. Cascadia would grow to encompass what was left of California & stretch farther north up Canada over the next two decades, though this was more of a necessity than anything, as a lot of the land was left in ruin. Fields of flat, destroyed land stretch the areas between the cities, with the center of Cascadia being found in what would become New Seattle.

Concordia would be established by the government of Cascadia in 2037, acting as a connection point between the landmasses of America and Asia.

Demography and Population

A good 90% of the inhabitants live within the towns found scattered across Cascadia, as few and plentiful as they are-- with a large percentage of them located within New Seattle. These towns aren't too particularly large, either, so it's not uncommon for the inhabitants of these cities to be familiar with just about everyone that lives in them; excluding that of New Cascadia of course. The rest of the inhabitants live in the wilderness, more often than not in Standard Living Quarters that are able to withstand Purple Hazes and the occasional beastie that is found out there.

Territories

A good majority of Cascadia is made up of regions of land that were located on the western side of the United States. Although what was once California was going to be it's own seperate country, they eventually opted to join up with Cascadia given the reliance on green technology was becoming popular along western region.

Trade & Transport

One form of transportation across Cascadia is done using old underground railways that were built across the continent. Around half of these railways, stretching up into the former Canada area and connecting to the rest of the old United States, are still functional; and are oftentimes secure enough to ensure traveler's safety during Purple Hazes. However, as most of these railways are unusable, other means of transportation are often made in them, such as making use of Hovers.

More often than not, however, people will need to travel on the surface, following along abandoned highways and stopping at various shelter points that are designed to withstand the heat from the Purple Hazes. Carriers can often be found taking these highways, prepared for any emergency that may arise during their travels.
