Saliyah Tuirseach
(a.k.a. "Wave Breaker")
Saliyah “Wave-Breaker” Tuirseach was born of a union that many Skelligers regarded with suspicion. Her mother, Nasrin, was an Ofieri protective escort to a minor Ofieri official. Nasrin had arrived on Skellige’s shores after a shipwreck that left her stranded near the cliffs of An Skellig. Saliyah’s father, Torgeir Tuirseach, a fierce warrior with a rare curiosity for the wider world, found Nasrin and took her into his home. Despite their differences, the two were drawn to each other, sharing a fierce independence and a love for the sea.
Saliyah is a striking figure among the hardened people of Skellige. Her mixed heritage has gifted her with a unique beauty—she has her mother’s rich brown hair, inherited from her Ofieri lineage, cascading in waves down to her shoulders. Her piercing blue eyes, however, are pure Skellige, as intense and cold as the ocean depths. Saliyah’s skin holds a natural, rosy and freckled complexion, contrasting with the rough, wind-beaten faces of most Skelligers. Her athletic frame has been tempered on the high seas and the many challenges she has overcome.
Growing up in the rugged islands, Saliyah was often underestimated by those who thought her beauty was all their was to the lass. She used this to her advantage, blending her physical strength with tactical brilliance learned from both her Skelliger father and her Ofieri mother. The dual heritage that shaped her looks also informed her unique approach to life and battle, where she combines Skelliger brutality with the elegant combat skills passed down from her mother’s training.
During the second Nilfgaardian war, she found herself and crew being hired by envoys from the nation of Kovir and Poviss. Subsequently, in her time with Adieu’s Free Company, Saliyah developed a reputation as a fierce warrior who could turn heads and command respect in equal measure. Her blue eyes seemed to pierce through any opponent’s bravado, and her graceful yet powerful movements earned her the name “Wave-Breaker,” as if she embodied the force of Skellige’s relentless tides. While her appearance drew attention, it was her strength, intelligence, and resilience that made her a true leader.
She captains The Selkie's Fury with a deft hand, winning the loyalty of her crew through a mix of strength and empathy. Saliyah is known for her fairness, but she also sets high standards, demanding discipline and bravery. Her presence can at times be overwhelming, but it’s her clever mind and fearlessness that give her the edge over her enemies. Saliyah is not just a captain but a name that is heard throughout An Skellig and much of the islands at large - a force on the seas who has found a way to bring together the best of both worlds, honoring both her father’s fierce Skelliger lineage and her mother’s gracefull Ofieri heritage.
